Legendary crime jazz album from 1960 finally available on CD!
In 1960 a little-known American arranger and conductor, Irving Joseph, recorded his own only album. In twelve short, content-loaded compositions he managed to enclose a story of the criminal side of New York of the 30’s and 40’s of the previous century. Crime jazz? A most fitting term.
As though in a good book, there are unexpected turns of plot, police chases, courtroom trials and mafia feuds – with the only difference in that they are described with music sounds instead of words. This obscure noir jazz was unusually, imaginatively arranged and performed by leading session musicians of that time (among them associates of Miles Davis and Gil Evans!).
