You shouldn't ask... but if you have to, this is what you will come to know: Krakow, Poland is a city with an ancient and temperamental creative soul that craves the constant accompaniment of musicians. David Molus moved to this city from England and soon thereafter him and his guitar met Polish blues gunslinger Tomek Zapala. Without the benefit of a common language, the two began communing through the songs of Dylan, Cash, Yorke, and, most importantly, Molus. Early on in this musical entanglement the two encountered the melodica wielding American Thymn Chase and he slowly became a squeaky third wheel - adding keyboards, vocals and melodica to the musical musings of Mr. Molus and Pan Zapa?a. The Mingus went through several incarnations over relevant lengths of irrelevant time until soul-brother Jarek Wyka firmly settled himself behind the kit and bass guru Kobra took up permanent residence in the deep end. Don't Ask Mingus is a Krakow based five-piece rhythm and blues rock band with a deep sentiment for folk, and a permanent penchant for raw, soul-rattling lyricism. Landslide is Don't Ask Mingus' first full length album and it covers a lot of ground stylistically, musically and lyrically. The heart of every Mingus song is Molus' driving acoustic guitar and his world-weary voice. The rhythm section's groove, the arrangements and often inspired solos all add color and depth to Molus' already powerful songs. Stylistically Landslide is a mixed bag and the Mingus dip into everything from melodic alt-country (Going Home, Soldier On), roadhouse rock (No Tracks, Batman), epic indie-folk anthem (Laying Down Lies) and even throwback saloon blues (Kiss Goodnight). Nowa, niezupełnie polska twarz gitarowego niezależnego rocka.


Pod tą zaskakującą nazwą kryje się polsko-angielsko-amerykański (a właściwie polsko-szkocko-amerykański) zespół, który powstał wiosną 2005 roku w Krakowie. Został założony z inicjatywy pochodzącego ze Szkocji wokalisty i gitarzysty Davida Molusa oraz gitarzysty Tomasza Zapały. Niedługo potem do składu dołączył grający na instrumentach klawiszowych Amerykanin Thymn Chase znany również z krakowskiej formacji Eluktrik. Przez pierwsze 2 lata działalności zespół gra wyłącznie muzykę akustyczną, poza autorskimi kompozycjami Molusa w ich repertuarze można usłyszeć utwory Casha, Dylana oraz Radiohead. W tym czasie muzycy występują w audycji Agnieszki Szydłowskiej dla Programu 3 Polskiego Radia o obcokrajowcach na stałe mieszkających w Krakowie, gdzie na żywo wykonują jeden utwór ze swojego repertuaru.
Na przełomie 2007/2008 roku do składu dołączył perkusista Jarek Wyka oraz basista Jurek Drobot grający wcześniej z Ziyo, Revolucją, Nie-bo, Wojciechem Waglewskim, Krzysztof Zalewskim, Wojciechem Klichem, Eluktrick oraz obecnie z Anią Wyszkoni.
Krystalizuje się brzmienie, zbliżone do gatunków indie, alternatywnego rocka, bluesa, zespół dużo koncertuje.

W czerwcu 2009 dochodzi do nagrania pierwszej Ep-ki z autorskimi kompozycjami. Utwory są grane w audycjach "Minimax" Piotra Kaczkowskiego, "Bielszy odcień bluesa" Jana Chojnackiego, w radio Kraków, Antyradiu i innych.

W lutym 2010 muzycy ponownie wchodzą do studia aby nagrać materiał pozwalający wydać pełny album, który właśnie się ukazuje nakładem nowego sublabelu Gusstaff Rec.: LooseWire.
