name of the project: institut fuer feinmotorik (= institute for precision motoricity)

members: 4 persons, plus some freelancers

founded: 1997 at an art/club evening in Basel (ch)

purpose:
different occupations in different formats; among a.o. organization of events (Entertainment/Music/Fine Arts), marginal reflections on the subject of the term of precision motoricity in different contexts, experiment setups for the production of sound and light works, concentration on reduction of the instruments, among others interest in acoustic phenomena around the record player, indeed along with abandonment of records; accompanying motto: "To produce from almost nothing almost nothing".

Since 1997 different presentations with the concept of "empty" record players, thereby 2-4 persons play approx. 8 record players under the application of different handicraft-materials in a music performance.

Długo oczekiwany nowy album turntablistów i weteranów clicks'n'cluts.

Na nowej płycie "Penetrans" Institut Für Feinmotorik prezentuje długo oczekiwane wyniki prób i eksperymentów z ostatnich dwóch lat pracy badawczej w swoich szwarcwaldzkich majsterkowniach.
Co więcej: określenie "turntablism" należy tu potraktować bardzo dosłownie: założony w 1997 roku INSTITUT FÜR FEINMOTORIK bierze czynny udział w dyspucie o trudnych i właśnie precyzyjnych (Feinmotorik po nienmiecku: motoryka precyzyjna) możliwościach estetycznych najnowszej technologii. To, co łączy tych czterch młodych ludzi z Bad Säckingen z kulturą DJ-ów to osiem profesjonalnych gramofonów, których używają jak instrumentów. Ale w opozycji do DJ-ów, IFF nie przedstawia istniejącej muzyki (odgrywanej z płyt), lecz traktują gramofon jako "instrument sam w sobie": przenoszący drgania taśmy gumowej, modyfikowany z użyciem papieru, tektury i filmów Tesa, itp.

Całość przyjmuje jednak w zaskakujący sposób postać dość "groovy", wynikająca z miarowości kręcącego się na 33 lub 45 obrotów talerza. Dzięki temu powstaje muzyka między minimal-techno i clicks'n'cuts, której świeżość i dźwiękowa przejrzystość nadają muzyce Institut Für Feinmotorik rozpoznawalną swoistość.
