Taking their name from the first Roman Polanski movie, Knife In The Water´s music does possess a distinctly cinematic quality. The sublte blending of organ, twanging guitar, pedal steel, bass, drum kit and the entwining throats of Aaron and Laura provide a proper musical backdrop to let the listener´s imgaination run free.
The debut album by the Austin 5-piece comes in the Digifile packaging.
Knife In The Water are: Cisco Ryder (Drums), Aaron Blount (Vocals, Guitar), Laura Krause (Organ, Vocals), John Brewington (Bass), Bill McCullough (Pedal Steel).
"There's a little bit of country, a touch of psych, and lots of room to daydream in the wide-open music of `Plays One Sound and Others´, by the Texas quintet KNIFE IN THE WATER. Like Spiritualized with a Gram Parsons jones, Knife in the Water play everything with low-gravity grace and a dash of prairie dust. You can swim in the long, warm curdle of the organ in `One Sound´; the pedal steel in `Seat of Pity´ hovers like a whining mirror image of the band's choked boy-girl harmonies. This record gets you nowhere fast, which is hardly a problem. You'll be in no hurry to leave." (David Fricke, ROLLING STONE US)
„Imagine Wim Wenders retelling Blood Simple. Maybe the music that George Jones and Tammy Wynette would have made with Nick Cave in the depths of a week-long binge of red-yellow pills kicked back with Jim Beam´s.“ (Luna Kafé)
