Each piece on this album begins differently, as if the musicians start from a new starting point each time and adopt a new perspective. Malfon, Stoffner and Trilla also make use of ever-changing, surprising sounds, each of which has a rich repertoire. What remains constant is
their interplay. This trio is as if it had been an existing formation for ten years. This is quite amazing, as the recording was made at their second meeting. In an unforced manner, their playing is always together. If it were strained, it wouldn't be together either, because then the strain would be in between.
Anyone who has ever had a conversation with another person can understand that. In the best case, a conversation leads from one to the next, from the small to the large, from the serious to the light, without any effort being required. Whereby the comparison between language and music doesn't quite add up. A word is a shell that - combined with other words - conveys a content that can exceed and burst the shell. This music is content and shell at the same time. It is immediate.
One could also say: it is free.
And that is something that so-called "free music" rarely is. Surprisingly, it often sounds as if it was thought up by unimaginative composers. It starts softly and gets louder and then it gets quieter again and then it gets really loud and then it's finished. Well, this album is not like that. Malfon, Stoffner and Trilla have succeeded in creating a varied, surprising, alert and thus very entertaining album.
