Although they were both seminal figures in the development of modern and cool jazz (and although both played together a lot, e.g., at Birdland in the early fifties), Miles Davis and Milt Jackson only recorded together on a few occasions. As to be expected, their recordings together produced splendid music. This 2-CD set compiles all of their collaborative recordings on one edition for the first time ever. Added to their studio sessions, which also feature stars like Thelonious Monk and Jackie McLean, is the only other preserved encounter by Miles and Milt, recorded in Germany during a tour that featured the members of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Milt included, of course) with Miles and a weak, sick Lester Young. Miles only rarely recorded in small groups with vibraphonists. For this reason we have completed our set with two of these rare occasions. The first is a complete short album titled Blue Moods, recorded by Miles for Charles Mingus' label Debut (Mingus is also on bass). The vibes player here is Teddy Charles. Also of interest is our last item, a complete radio broadcast from Birdland present.......
