After 15 years of silence, British psychedelic pioneer Kevin Ayers is returning to the limelight with a little help from his friends on The Unfairground, which hits North American shelves March 18 via Gigantic. Ayers, much like Syd Barrett, has long been regarded as one of the most important British artists of the late '60s underground scene, credited in part to his work in the Soft Machine. The Unfairground, co-produced by Ladybug Transistor's Gary Olson and Peter Henderson, features a myriad of talent as well as a pseudo-Soft Machine reunion in the form of Hugh Hopper on bass and Robert Wyatt singing through a synthesizer, dubbed the Wyattron. Other high-profile guests on the new record include Norman Blake [Teenage Fanclub], Phil Manzanera [Roxy Music], Bill Wells [Bill Wells Trio], Euros Childs, [Gorky's Zygotic Mynci], Frank Reader [Trash Can Sinatras], Bridget St. John and members from Architecture In Helsinki, plus many other notables
