Polish five-piece Third Degree don't beat around the bush, citing Napalm Death as their primary influence, making reference to Morbid Angel, Godflesh and even Neurosis, and they're pretty much bang-on the mark. Pushing their breed of Grindesque Brutal Death Metal from the opening seconds of this album, at times an untrained ear could almost mistake Third Degree for Napalm Death. While they lack some of the technical characteristics of the godfathers of Grind, they certainly pack a very similar sound, which is sure to attract many listeners.
Fans of Brutal Death Metal will find plenty to like about 'Outstay'. The 13 tracks show some nice examples of how the genre can be done, and while production is a little lacking, and there aren't a lot of stand-out riffs, it never falls short of solid and is well worth checking out if your ears spiked up at the mention of any of the four mentioned influences. Nice roaring vocals, groovy, chugging guitars, thick bass and concrete drumming. Check, check, check and check.
Third Degree are on the right track with their sophomore release. If album number three is another step up, I imagine it will be a very worthwhile investment.

It’s good to see some underground metal in the form of grind merchants Third Degree coming out of places like Poland (their home town is Olsztyn in the country’s north). Third Degree have been around since 1997 and they’ve released several pieces over those years including multiple 7” singles and split singles as well as a debut full length on cassette (1998’s Oblicza Terroru) and a discography compilation in Six Years Of 666. Now signed with their home country label, SelfMadeGod Records, they’ve put together their overdue second full length Outstay.

Drugi, długo oczekiwany album THIRD DEGREE z Olsztyna przynosi ogromną dawkę okrutnego intensywnego grindcore'a. Niszczące wokale, przygniatające uszy blasty, precyzyjne, mocne gitary oraz nieustająca prędkość to charakterystyczne cechy "Outstay". Tym razem przyszło mi się bliżej przyjrzeć najnowszemu dziecku rodzimego Third Degree. Płytka, którą mam przyjemność recenzować, nosi tytuł Outstay i została wydana nakładem Self Made God Records. Na krążek ten czekałem niecierpliwie, gdyż od dłuższego czasu przyglądam się działalności Olsztynian i cieszy mnie niezmiernie ciągły progres, który następuje w zespole. Do rzeczy...

Album składa się z 13 kawałków, odegranych w czasie 35 minut, oscylujących w granicach szeroko pojętego nowoczesnego grind core'a. Większość tekstów, które znalazły się na płycie, zostały napisane w języku angielskim, oprócz dwóch, Ojcze Mój oraz Zamienię. Podczas słuchania krążka, pierwsze co rzuca się automatycznie w oczy / uszy, to fakt, że skład Third Degree się uszczuplił i słychać w numerach tylko jednego wokalistę, który całkowicie sprawdza się w powierzonej mu roli, operując mocnym, zdecydowanym growlem. Muzycznie, chłopaki podążają konsekwentnie ustaloną przez siebie ścieżką, łącząc prostotę i energię zawartą w twórczości Disrupt wraz bardziej połamanymi zagrywkami, znanymi z rodzimego Nyia (fakt ten nie powinien dziwić, gdyż Szymon Czech (g) jest również gitarzystą wymienionego przed momentem zespołu, co na pewno ma niebagatelne znaczenie przy pisaniu numerów).
