Editor's info:

As early as 1972, Amon Düül II embarked on their first tour of Britain, recording a show at the Greyhound club in Croydon on December 16, 1972, which was released in Britain in 1973 and in Germany one year later. The tour was marked by chaotic arrangements before the bands departure and a line-up change just before the musicians set off: producer Olaf Kübler convinced his colleagues to bring back former Düül skinsman Peter Leopold to support drummer Danny Fichelscher and take him along on the British tour. Peter returned because Danny Fichelscher proved to be a very talented drummer, but had in no way the snappy discipline that Leo had to a T, Kübler explained his suggestion, which ensured that the band had a solid and convincing rhythm basis. On the other hand, the musicians came to realise following numerous car breakdowns and financial discrepancies during the tour that the wind that blew in the home country of rock music was even icier than on the comparatively laid-back German scene, where the live cut earned extremely positive reviews. Live In London, recorded at the end of 1972, sees Amon Düül II present a very nice overview of what constituted the band in those days back then, when theyd reached the first pinnacle of their career with Archangels Thunderbird, journalist Manfred Gillig mused in Sounds magazine, adding: Although it does seem a shame that Live In London is a relatively old recording, which doesnt take into account the development that the band has undergone since, the album still gives a very good impression of one of the more successful Amon Düül concerts. British journalists even attested Amon Düül II to be one of the most important German acts, alongside Can.
