A graduate from The Royal Danish Conservatory, the Danish violinist Line Kruse soon developed a taste for the extraordinary. Her interest in jazz led her to Paris, where she became part of the city’s vibrant international and especially Latin music scene. For the last 15 years she has been based in Paris with the whole world as her stage - particularly as a member of the innovative and extremely popular tango band Gotan Project. But Line Kruse finds her own personal musical paths when blending traditional jazz violin with Latin and Scandinavian influences in a modern setting with a touch of electronica. Danish reviewers have described the music as “splendid and innovative”, saying that Line “mixes violin and Latin rhythms with an astute sense of style in a steaming hot affair”.
In 2005 Line Kruse gave us WARM WAVES. DREAM from 2009 does not reveal that she is part of a world famous electronica-inspired tango orchestra. Line’s third release, DANCING ON AIR, features her own original compositions and arrangements in a repertoire put together in the same fashion as her musical life: navigating from north to south. It all blends together to create her own brand of world music, when she builds bridges between Scandinavian sounds, Afro-Peruvian tradition, tango, jazz and electronica, played with virtuosity and feeling. It’s great to hear her incorporate other worlds in her music without losing sight of her Scandinavian ancestry. The CD’s title, DANCING ON AIR, hints that her many-facetted musical personality also includes poetic and dreamy sides.
Line’s ambitions are high. The Swedish super-bassist, Lars Danielsson, the phenomenal Argentine drummer Minino Garay, and the French pianist Jean Yves Jung are the basis of a truly international band. Duńska skrzypaczka i kompozytorka Line Kruse najbardziej znana jest ze współpracy z super-grupą Gotan Project, z którą współpracuje od jej powstania, tzn. od nagrania pierwszej ich płyty „La Revancha del Tango”, na której wystąpiła obok trójki założycieli i argentyńskich muzyków Gustavo Beytelmanna (fortepian), Nini Floresa (bandoneon) i Edi Tomassi’ego (instrumenty perkusyjne), a także hiszpańskiej wokalistki Cristiny Vilallonga.
„Dancing On Air„ to jej druga autorska płyta nagrana dla audiofilskiej wytwórni Stunt Records, album przynosi wysmakowany jazz z elementami muzyki świata, nie przez przypadek sama liderka opowiadając o płycie mówi o budowaniu pomostów pomiędzy kulturami Argentyny, Danii i Francji, w której od 15 lat mieszka.
Krytycy zgodnie podkreślają nienaganą technikę Line Kruse, oraz klimat muzyki, przesycony zarówno skandynawskim chłodem, jak i gorącym, pulsującym tangiem. Mieszanka zaskakująca, ale w towarzystwie doskonałych muzyków udało się pogodzić ogień z wodą.
Line Kruse ukończyła Królewskie Konserwatorium Muzyczne w Kopenhadze, dość szybko jednak głęboka namiętność do muzyki jazzowej wygrała i sprawiła, że znalazła swoje miejsce w paryskiej dzielnicy łacińskiej, gdzie mieszka do dzisiaj.
