As if it wasn’t enough to be four of the best performers around in their respective instruments, they’re simultaneously the most innovative and the most true to the tradition among all of the present day jazzmen. A quartet like this comes directly from the dream world. It seemed impossible, but here it is, and making all the sense. Bassist Revis has an incredible curriculum of collaborations with Betty Carter, Branford Marsalis, Billy Harper, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Brotzmann, McCoy Tyner, Elvins Jones and Lionel Hampton. Now he fronts 11:11, providing the most part of the compositions. Vandermark is the leading force of the Chicagoan free bop scene, mastering the grainiest tenor sax sound we can find in the States. Moran and Waits are accomplices in the group dizzrected by the first, one of the bravest around: Bandwagon. The pianist has a remarkable history with the likes of Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter, Sam Rivers and Steve Coleman, and the drummer walked a similar path, from Max Roach M’Boom to his own projects, going through Andrew Hill. You can’t miss this album. It would be like not knowing what’s going on.

O tym, że mur miedzy głównym nurtem a eksperymentem jest tworem tak sztucznym... Jak praktycznie każda ściana wzniesiona przez człowieka, chce przekonać nas Eric Revis i jego kwartet 11:11. Żeby sprawa stała się właściwie zupełnie jasna, wystarczy podać skład tej formacji: Ken Vandermark - saksofon tenorowy, Jason Moran - fortepian, Eric Revis - kontrabas, Nasheet Waits - perkusja.

Ponieważ są w życiu sprawy ważniejsze niż śledzenie kto w danym momencie dzierży berło jazzowego proroka, krótka legenda: saksofonista i klarnecista Ken Vandermark jest dziś jednym z najważniejszych i najbardziej rozpoznawalnych muzyków sceny chicagowskiej. Śmiało można go nazwać największym, najaktywniejszym ambasadorem tego kierunku w muzyce na świecie. Szczególnie bliski naszym sercom może być jego projekt Resonance - orkiestra improwizatorów, do której zaprosił obok gwiazd z wietrznego miasta także Europejczyków, a wśród nich Mikołaja Trzaskę i Wacława Zimpla. W roku 1999 Vandermark otrzymał stypendium MacArthura - słynne genius grant.

Pianista Jason Moran skupił na sobie uwagę jazzowego świata za sprawą swojego tria Bandwagon, w którym partnerują mu na kontrabasie Tarus Mateen i - podobnie jak na tej płycie - Nasheet Waits na perkusji. Zespół od początku swojego istnienia związany jest z wydawnictwem Blue Note a ich ostatnia płyta "Ten" - wydana z okazji 10lecia wspólnego grania - została powszechnie uznana za płytę roku 2010. Tym jednak, co wyróżnia Morana, obok niezaprzeczalnego muzycznego kunsztu, jest szerokość artystycznego horyzontu.
