Disc no. 17 from the Polish Radio Jazz Archives series differs from all previous ones in that, although the audio material comes from radio collections, it was recorded in the United Kingdom and the United States over 65 years ago on 78-rpm shellac records. These records are now unusable due to the lack of suitable record players, as well as the technical quality of both the records themselves and the music played on them.

Polish Radio SA's treasures lie not only in the countless preserved recordings but also in its employees, such as Anna Rutkowska, who works with sound in the Radio Archives and also imparts some of her knowledge to students at the Łódź Film School.

Anna digitized the old recordings, then denoised them, cleaned them, and prepared the master. Thanks to this, we can now listen to recordings from 1934-1945 by the Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman orchestras, as well as the Benny Goodman quartet and sextet.

A generous dose of swing performed by jazz giants

Płyta nr.17 z radiowej serii Polish Radio Jazz Archives,różni się od wszystkich poprzednich tym, że choć materiał dźwiękowy pochodzi z radiowych zbiorów to został zarejestrowany w Wielkiej Brytanii i Stanach Zjednoczonych przed ponad 65 laty na płytach szelakowych 78 obrotów. Płyty te dziś są bezużyteczne z racji braku odpowiednich gramofonów jak również jakości technicznej ich samych jak i odtwarzanej z nich muzyki.

Skarbem Polskiego Radia SA są nie tylko nieprzebrane ilości zachowanych nagrań ale i pracownicy, tacy jak pani Anna Rutkowska pracująca z dźwiękiem w radiowym Archiwum, również przekazująca część swej wiedzy studentom w łódzkiej „Filmówce„.

Pani Anna zdigitalizowała stare nagrania, po czym je odszumiła, wyczyściła i przygotowała master. Dzięki czemu możemy posłuchać nagrań z lat 1934 -1945 orkiestr : Duka Ellingtona i Benny Goodmana jak również kwartetu i sekstetu Benny Goodmana.
