One may argue that on a meta-level this is an extremely critical album. Equally well one might argue that this is not an album at all. This is not music. This is not a finished opus. All true (and false at the same time).
Each copy of „Art of Choices” consists of different recordings, different memories, different stories. Each copy is unique and you never know what will you get.
Konrad went through his collection of field-recordings from recent years and chose one hundred completely unrelated sets of sounds, which – when put together – become short impressions, stories, anecdotes... or just sound postcards from certain places, moments and people. Cut, edited, mixed or left untouched, ten minutes or 60 minutes, one track or a tracklist – you never know.
So, what is an album? What is that „piece of art” you're trying to show to the listeners when creating an album? What does it consist of? How important it is? Can it be important at all?
Or maybe: what is the role of music, of sound recordings? Does it need to communicate, narrate – or maybe the aesthetical impression itself is pretty much enough?
The recordings here do not bring answers to those or to any other questions, they are – each of them is - just a direct, almost face to face, personal message.
Get yourself a copy and find out which story Konrad told you. You can be sure he never told it to anyone else so don't expect any review to tell you what to think. Meet the artist in person, quite likely more personal encounter is not possible with the means of an audio CD release.
And if you like it (or if you actually don't) you can always ask for another copy...
