Ken and Fred have been musical partners for many years. This is their first a duo album ever!!!

Fred Lonberg-Holm enjoys working with a wide variety of musicians in as many situations as possible. Current and ongoing projects include Stirrup (Charles Rumback and Nick Macri), Friction Brothers (w/ Michaels Colligan and Zerang), The Valentine Trio, The Boxhead Ensemble, ADA trio (w/ Peter Brötzmann and Paal Nilssen-Love), VCDC, The Fast Citizen’s, Ballister, Joe McPhee’s Survival Unit III, Easel and Screw and Straw, the Party Knüllers as well as numerous one off projects.

Past ensembles of note include the Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Anthony Coleman's Self Haters Orchestra, the Vandermark Five and Ken Vandermark's Frame Quartet, Seval, and Terminal 4.

Improvisors he has worked with include Clare Cooper, Charlotte Hug, Andrea Neumann, Sofia Jernberg, Shelly Hirsch, Tomeka Reid, Michiyo Yagi, Carrie Shull, Carrie Biolo, Birgitte Uhler, Rachel Wadham, Mary Halvorson, Joelle Leandre, Joanne Powers, Zeena Parkins, Judy Dunaway, Lotte Anker, Katherine Young, Jessica Pavone as well as a number of guys.

He also leads a revolving cast large ensembles under the name Lightbox Orchestra. His extensive discography includes free improvised and free jazz recordings as well as new music, pop, rock and noise.

Born in Warwick, Rhode Island on September 22nd, 1964, Ken Vandermark began studying the tenor saxophone at the age of 16. Since graduating with a degree in Film and Communications from McGill University during the spring of 1986, his primary creative emphasis has been the exploration of contemporary music that deals directly with advanced methods of improvisation. In 1989, he moved to Chicago from Boston, and has worked continuously from the early 1990s onward, both as a performer and organizer in North America and Europe, recording in a large array of contexts, with many internationally renowne.......

Ken Vandermark: saksofony, klarnet

Rewelacyjnie sprawny saksofonista (przede wszystkim tenorowy) i klarnecista (przede wszystkim basowy). Jego gra na obu tych instrumentach, powoduje, że znaleźć się on powinien pośród najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli obu tych instrumentów we współczesnym jazzie. Winien być jednak postrzegany także jako animator jazzowej sceny. Wielość projektów, które prowadzi doprawdy imponuje.
Wczesny okres twórczości Kena Vandermarka, to współpraca z rockowym zespołem The Flying Luttenbachers. Podstawową formą wypowiedzi Vandermarka pozostaje jednak jazz. Tworzy Ken Vandermark Quartet, którego koncepcja przeniesiona została do The Vandermark 5, jednego z kilku najważniejszych projektów Vandermarka. Równolegle z tym zespołem prowadzi trio DKV, w skład którego wchodzą Hamid Drake oraz Kent Kessler. Ten zespół, prezentujący akustyczne trio, ściśle nawiązuje do tradycji free jazzowej, wywodzącej się z wczesnych form free, dorzucając jednak młodzieńczą witalność. Bardziej rytmiczno-rockową postacią tria jazzowego prezentowanego przez Vandermarka jest Spaceways Incorporated. Współprowadzi również dwa amerykańsko-skandynawskie projekty: School Days oraz Territory Band. Często także uczestniczy w nagraniach AALY Trio Matsa Gustafssona, wraz z Peterem Brötzmannem i Matsem Gustafssonem tworzy znakomite trio Sonore. W ostatnich latach Vandermark współtworzy kilka nowych projektów, m.in: Platform 1, Double Tanderm, Lean Left, Made To Break, czy Fire Room. Koncertuje i nagrywa także solo oraz w duetach z Timem Daisy i Paal Nilssen-Lovem.
Gra i dotychczasowa aktywność Vandermarka spotkała się w roku 1999 z uznaniem, albowiem dostał on w tym roku nagrodę MacArthura (stając się jej laureatem pośród takich luminarzy jazzu, jak Cecil Taylor, czy Anthony Braxton).
