The Metropole Orkest - the multiple Grammy winning jazz / symphonic / pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, proudly releases Italian Opera Meets Jazz, an album with Neapolitan songs and arias. The accent is on Italian composers such as Verdi and Puccini, performed in a contemporary setting by pianist Mike del Ferro together with the Metropole Orkest and singer Claron McFadden.
For Mike del Ferro, opera and classical music have been familiar fare since his infancy. He began having classical piano lessons early, until he heard jazz and decided to turn his sights on that. But he has never lost his immense love for opera and classical music. Some time ago he hit upon the idea of arranging opera repertoire for his own trio. Talks with the Metropole Orkest led to the plan of recording a new album of this repertoire with the ensemble, which then asked eight international arrangers to cast them in an entirely new mould.
Apart from one composition all the works performed here - arias by Verdi and Puccini and Neapolitan songs - are by Italian composers.

Mike del Ferro (born in Amsterdam) is an internationally renowned, enormously versatile pianist. With appearances so far in 116 countries throughout the world, his performances vary from solo recitals to crossovers with traditional music, the latter taking him all over the world. He is the son of opera singer Len del Ferro (1921-1992) who worked with many international stars including Maria Callas and Leonard Bernstein.

Założona w 1945 roku Metropole Orkest - wielokrotnie nagradzana, m.in. nagrodą Amerykańskiej Akademii Filmowej - Oscarem i Grammy Awards w kategoriach Jazz / Symphonic / Orkiestra Pop, z dumą przedstawia premierowy program "Italian Opera Meets Jazz".
