Wieloryb was formed in 1994. At that time, the band consisted of Paweł Kmiecik, Robert Suszko and Maciej Żabczyński. At that time, the Gdańsk artists were part of the electro-industrial movement, whose icons include D.A.F., Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and Skinny Puppy. Wieloryb offered an original version of Electro Body Music (EBM) on their first cassette "1" (1994), and their wild aggression and uncompromising nature outshone the recordings of the classics of the genre. Despite their radicalism, the songs that filled the cassette were characterized by a resonance rarely seen in this type of music. This is probably why the band's debut achieved artistic success. The material was never released on CD or vinyl. The small print run sold out very quickly and just as quickly gained cult status in alternative circles. After almost a quarter of a century, "1" is finally released on vinyl and CD in a careful reissue by Requiem Records and masterfully mastered by Marcin Bociński. Wieloryb's debut has retained its original, sparse graphic design in the new edition.

Zespół Wieloryb powstał w 1994 roku. Działał wtedy w składzie Paweł Kmiecik, Robert Suszko i Maciej Żabczyński. Gdańscy artyści wpisywali się wówczas w nurt electro-industrialu, którego ikonami są D.A.F., Front 242, Nitzer Ebb i Skinny Puppy. Wieloryb na swojej pierwszej kasecie "1" (1994) zaproponował autorską wersję Electro Body Music (EBM), a dziką agresją i bezkompromisowością bił na głowę nagrania klasyków gatunku. Przy całym swym radykalizmie, utwory wypełniające kasetę cechowała rzadko spotykana w tego typu muzyce nośność. Zapewne dlatego debiut zespołu osiągnął artystyczny sukces. Materiał nigdy nie został wydany na płycie CD ani na winylu. Niewielki nakład rozszedł się bardzo szybko i równie szybko zyskał w kręgach alternatywnych status kultowego. Po niemal ćwierćwieczu "1" ukazuje się wreszcie na winylu i CD w starannej reedycji Requiem Records i mistrzowskim masteringu Marcina Bocińskiego. Debiut Wieloryba zachował w nowym wydaniu pierwotną, oszczędną szatę graficzną.
