Pianist Aki Rissanen has been quickly rising among the few top forces of Finnish jazz. Over the last years, he has also made a name for himself in the international jazz scene especially as a leader of his own trio. Although originally classically trained, he has always had a heart for improvised music and jazz. This second recording by Aki Rissanen Trio is an ambitious and rhythmically intense album that raises Aki Rissanen Trio undeniably into the front of the whole European jazz field.
Aki Rissanen studied classical piano for 12 years in Finland and jazz and improvised music at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris, France. He took private lessons in New York, USA and Cologne, Germany in 2005-2008. In 2009, he graduated with a Master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy Jazz Department in Finland after studying jazz piano and composition for 7 years.

According to Aki, ‘There are few characteristic things I wanted to define the sound of the album with. Compared with the more pastoral and lyrical ' Amorandom', the new album concentrates more on hypnotic loops and grooves.’

Following on from 2016's Amorandom, Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen has produced yet another satisfying album. Born in 1980 he has already released nine albums as leader or co-leader. Rissanen studied classical piano at Finland's Kuopio Conservatory from 1990-2000 and then jazz music at Helsinki Polytechnic School and in 2009 gained a Master's degree in jazz piano and composition from the Sibelius Academy Jazz Department, also in Helsinki. He also studied improvised music at Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris.

Pianista Aki Rissanen przedstawiany jest jako "waga ciężka fińskiego jazzu". Studiował Jazz i Improwizację na Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique w Paryżu i Sibelius Academy Jazz Department w Finlandi (2002-2009). Zwyciężył w Solo Piano Competition na Montreux Jazz Festival i w La Defence competition we Francji. Jego debiutancki album 'Amorandom' (Edition Records, 2016) przebojem zdobył jazzowe podsumowania roku i zaskarbił sobie sympatię krytyków jazzowych i jazzfanów. Wystarczy wspomnieć entuzjastyczne recenzje w Guardianie i Jazzwise. Fiński Helsingin Sanomat dał albumowi najwyższą notę i zaszczytny tytuł “The Best Jazz Album of the Year”. Album zdobył także Finnish Grammy, Emma Award dla najlepszego jazzowego albumu 2016.

Trzeba wiele odwagi, aby wziąć na warsztat utwór prawdziwego klasyka współczesności, który wzbudzał zawsze wielkie zainteresowani słuchaczy, krytyków i muzyków na całym świecie. Hipnotyczna, zabarwiona nutą niepokoju "Etude 5 - Arc en CIel Reimagined" od pierwszych dźwięków przekonuje nas, iż mamy do czynienia z doprawdy wyjątkową wrażliwością wykonawców.

Niezwykle rześko i przekonująco wypadają własne kompozycje lidera, subtelnie ekspresyjne melodie, w których słychać duży nacisk stawiany na brzmienie oraz rozmaitość muzycznych tekstur, które swoje pochodzenie mają w tradycyjnej muzyce fińskiej, europejskim jazzie, wolnej improwizacji oraz contemporary classical.
