Kilogram Records presents the second edition of Ken Vandermark’s Snapshots project, a series of four limited edition, 7-inch singles of new, improvised solo music, to be released during 2021 and the first half of 2022.
Each 45 contains four improvisations which use all the instruments Ken plays: tenor & baritone sax, Bb & bass clarinet. The recordings will be issued by Kilogram at three-month intervals with cover art from photographs that Ken has taken while on tour. Volume 1 focused on Japan, with pieces dedicated to the musicians, Akira Sakata, the photographers Masahisa Fukase and Daidō Moriyama, and the filmmaker Yasujirō Ozu.
Before starting the work on Snapshots 2/Austria, Ken recorded a duo project with Nate Wooley for the Superpang label. They developed the music by sharing music files, overdubbing one track on top of another, bouncing files back and forth, often using more than two parts for each piece. This strategy was so successful that Ken decided to utilize it to create the next editions of Snapshots. Every volume in the series is pressed in a hand numbered edition of 100 copies, at 40 PLN, or $10 each, with digital versions selling at 20 PLN, or $5. European fans can order copies of Snapshots 2 directly from Kilogram/serpent, and listeners in North America can order from Catalytic Sound. When the series is completed, the entire project will be collected on a CD that combines all the pieces from each single, with bonus tracks that did not fit onto the initial 45s, adding to the range of this uniq....... more
