Hugo Race's new album with Fatalists released exclusively in Italy!

Hugo Race's new album, Once Upon a Time in Italy, is a musical and lyrical tour de force. Recorded with his band, Fatalists, and Australian guests Georgia Knight and TJ Howden, the album features 10 incredibly emotional new songs and one cover – Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man. This exceptional album was created during the lockdown years of 2020-22. So how did this profound, dreamily beautiful album (including a bonus EP with four tracks in Italian) come about?

Hugo is a living underground legend of international renown, a founding member of the Bad Seeds and The Wreckery, and since 1989 an independent producer-performer, songwriter with Dirtmusic, The True Spirit. More at: hugorace.com. In his own words:

"The first demo was recorded at the end of 2019 with a band in Italy. A few months later, the world shut down, and for the next twenty months I was stuck in my apartment in Melbourne... I'd never felt so alone. I called up the Italian Fatalistas, Checco, Diego, and Scorpio Joe, exchanging songs and ideas to help me navigate the void. New songs slowly emerged from dreams and memories, writing about the past without any insight into the future. My thoughts and lyrics revolved around my long-standing connections with Italy and the stories we tell ourselves to get through difficult times. The themes are so personal that I found myself abandoning the album and then returning to it many times, like a toxic love affair. I love this album and the incredible band behind it. We also created Italian versions of the songs because Italy is in our roots and fate allows it."
