From the very first album, the comments from our readers were as enthusiastic as the reviewers's appreciation, and that has not changed over the years, despite the fact that we are now familiar with the band's approach and style. The themes are grand and infectious, varying between the slow, sad and deeply moving marching band of the title track, over the more expansive and exuberant grandiose and compelling power of "The Hidden Balcony", to the brilliant third track, "Fkk Down, Fkk Off", which takes a step away from their typical sound to a more swing jazz big band extravaganza, with steady rhythm and theme, around which the soloists play their improvisations, yet it has the unpolished, raw, sometimes chaotic nature we so much like, moving forward like a big ship relentlessly steering through a major storm. Even if not all solos are technically recorded at the right level, it is a minor thing in the totality of the music.
The band consists of Magnus Broo on trumpet, Goran Kajfes on trumpet, Maestro soundsystem for woodwinds pedal, Johan Berthling on double bass, Konrad Agnas on drums, Mats Äleklint on trombone, sousaphone, Mattias Ståhl on vibraphone, Alexander Zethson on piano, Juno 106, and Martin Küchen on alto saxofone.
As mentioned previously, this is music that is close to the "people", that is made to touch emotions at a very basic level of shared sadness and joy, music that wants to reach out to others to join, music that builds a community, that reflects the sorrow of the joy of people in the street. And it does so brilliantly.
Küchen's compositional power and arrangements are still at the same high level after all these years.

A Muted Reality, trzeci studyjny album Angles. Fkk Down, Fkk Off błyskawicznie wrzuciłem na tygodniową playlistę, bo tak wyborna gra z konwencją tradycyjnego jazzu napędzana finezyjnymi dialogami trębaczy i wibrafonisty, że powinna przemówić do każdego. Testowałem na domownikach i – jak mówi starsza młodzież – siadło. A jak siadło to, to zaraz siadła i cała reszta, a tytułowe Muted Reality, 15-minutowy, z rozmachem i pełną dynamiką budowany utwór o bardziej już awangardowym charakterze, bliższy kompozycjom Carli Bley, doczekało się nawet życzliwych pytań o to, co to leci. The Hidden Balcony, nienachalnie zestawiające mocny temat z folkowymi, bałkańskimi ornamentami, też nie doczekał się wyraźnych głosów na nie, co biorę za dobrą monetę i zamierzam testować dalej.
… Angles nie oferują zwrotek i refrenów, koszulek z fajnym logiem ani szatańskiej symboliki, ale napędza ten skład silnik o niemałej mocy, a od kilkunastu lat nie opublikowali słabej płyty. Trzy studyjne wydawnictwa, które znajdziecie w katalogu portugalskiego Clean Feedu, to samo dobro warte szerszej promocji. A jeśli już nie znajdziemy sobie innego wspólnego tematu niż HiT, to ok, ale te 45 zł lepiej już wydać na jakąś zbiórkę charytatywną albo na jazzmanów, którzy w świecie social mediów nie mają szans.

Każdy prawdziwy wielbiciel muzyki (obojętnie jakiej) ma takich wykonawców, których wynosi po niebiosa. Gdy ich płyta trafia w jego ręce, rzuca wszystko, cokolwiek robi, i „odpala” album, by oddać się przyjemności obcowania z czymś nieziemsko metafizycznym. Ja coś takiego przeżywam za każdym razem, kiedy dostaję w swoje ręce nowe wydawnictwo najsłynniejszego projektu szwedzkiego saksofonisty Martina Küchena – zespołu Angles (i nieważne z jakim liczebnikiem na końcu). Nie ma znaczenia, czy jest to akurat sekstet, oktet, nonet, tentet czy trio – za każdym razem wr.......
