Forty-five years ago, after arriving in New York, I recorded my first album – entitled Adam – for Columbia Records. This album was a turning point, a dividing line, as it were, in my playing and my perception of jazz music. That trip entailed blazing completely new musical trails, far from European jazz. After years of performing with the best jazz musicians all over the world, I play quite differently. Today I’d like to share my music – the effect of many years of experiencing and searching. In the mid-1950s, thanks to Willis Conover's Music USA – Jazz Hour radio broadcasts, the classically trained Makowicz became fascinated by jazz, swing rhythm and the freedom of improvisation, especially in the masterful performances of American pianists Art Tatum and Erroll Garner. This was the beginning of the long and difficult road he chose, which, thanks to an enormous amount of work and determination, took him to the very top.... and in the homeland of jazz. Willis Conover named Adam Makowicz one of the "10 best pianists in the world today". In 1962, together with Tomasz Stańko, he founded the Jazz Darings, considered by Joachim Ernst Berendt to be one of the first free jazz bands in Europe. Just one year later, the band won first prize in the Southern Poland Jazz Competition. From that moment, the most eminent Polish jazzmen, including Andrzej Kurylewicz, Zbigniew Namysłowski, the band Novi Singers, began to invite the pianist to play together. In 1970, he began working with Michal Urbaniak and his supergroup of new fusion style. It was an extremely intense period of many months of touring and recording successive albums, including Michał Urbaniak's Group (1971), Inactin (1971) and Super Constellation (1973). In 1972, Makowicz took part in the recording of Urszula Dudziak's sensational Newborn Light album (five stars in "DownBeat" magazine!). 45 lat temu, po przybyciu do Nowego Jorku, nagrałem swój pierwszy album dla Columbia Records zatytułowany „Adam”. Album ten był punktem zwrotnym, swoistą cezurą mojego dotychczasowego grania i postrzegania muzyki jazzowej. Wyjazd był przetarciem zupełnie nowych muzycznych szlaków, z dala od europejskiego jazzu. Po latach muzykowania z najlepszymi jazzmanami na całym świecie, gram już zupełnie inaczej. Dziś chciałbym podzielić się moją muzyką – efektem wieloletnich doświadczeń i poszukiwań. (Adam Makowicz)

W połowie lat 50., dzięki audycjom radiowym Music USA – Jazz Hour Willisa Conovera, kształcony klasycznie Makowicz zafascynował się jazzem, swingowym rytmem i wolnością improwizacji, zwłaszcza w mistrzowskim wykonaniu amerykańskich pianistów Arta Tatuma i Errolla Garnera. Był to początek długiej i niełatwej drogi, którą wybrał, a która dzięki przeogromnej pracy i determinacji zaprowadziła go na sam szczyt... i to w ojczyźnie jazzu. Willis Conover uznał Adama Makowicza za jednego z „10 najlepszych pianistów dzisiejszego świata”. W 1962 roku wspólnie z Tomaszem Stańko założył zespół Jazz Darings, uznany przez Joachima Ernsta Berendta za jeden z pierwszych freejazzowych zespołów w Europie. Już rok później zespół zdobył pierwszą nagrodę w Konkursie Jazzowym Polski Południowej. Od tego mome.......
