Electronic music pioneer Kenneth Knudsen has been turning knobs and experimenting with ever-evolving synth tech since his musical curiosity was piqued the first time he heard the chilled-out Minimoog on the Beatles’ ABBEY ROAD.
“I knew right away I had to see what I could do with a Minimoog.”
The evolution of synthesizers would continue dramatically – first toward the polyphonic instruments of the late '70s and early '80s and later merging with digital technology. The distance between the recording studio and the instruments dwindled during the ‘90s, and Kenneth's experiments continued with various synthesizers and a beautiful black pianette.
Born in 1946, Kenneth Knudsen began his career in 1961 as a jazz pianist – but since the advent of synthesizers, he’s created music for and with electronic instruments on recordings with top-shelf groundbreaking groups and artists including Secret Oyster, Entrance, Bombay Hotel, Anima (a band he started in 1979), Sebastian, Palle Mikkelborg, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen - even Miles Davis, among many others.
In the late 1990s, Kenneth retired from performing to focus on what he refers to as “research existence” in his studio. Since then, fans have had to enjoy Kenneth's new musical achievements on the relatively few but noteworthy albums he’s released. In February of 2018, he gave us NOVEMBER TANGO, and assumed he was done – that’s all, folks – but luckily for us and his legions of listeners, he was just refining his vision.
Kenneth exited the so-called rhythmic mainstream long ago, putting his focus and creative efforts into more personally motivated sound experiments. He would feel the increasing pull and allure of acoustic instruments in him once again, and in April of 2018, Kenneth began preparing to record a piano album.
