Two brass players up front (Albert Beger on tenor and Ziv Taubenfeld on bass clarinet) driven by a perfectly oiled rhythmic machine in the persons of Shay Hazan on guimbri/double bass and Hamid Drake on drums.

The four-part "Cosmic Waves" creates a narrative bathed in ancient Middle Eastern musical traditions, permeated with dark, delicate and very focused energy. This is possible thanks to many years of experience of playing together - Shay Hazan has long played in Albert Beger's quartet, who has known Hamid Drake for over 20 years (two wonderful parts of "Evolving Silence" by the Hamid Drake, Albert Beger, William Parker trio were recorded in 2005), Ziv Taubenfeld, in turn, has been working with Shay Hazan in various bands for a decade.
The intriguing musical universe created by this magnificent quartet leans towards free form, the narrative in the individual parts systematically stratifies, yet without losing its internal dynamics. The harmonies of the tenor saxophone with the dark sound of the bass clarinet are perfectly countered by the rhythm section, sensitive to nuances and dramatic flavors. The musicians react to each other wonderfully, everything here seems to sing and resonate at the same time - an excellent recording!

Czteroczęściowa "Cosmic Waves" kreuje skąpany w starożytnych tradycjach muzycznych Bliskiego Wschodu narrację przesyconą mroczną, delikatną i bardzo skupioną energią. Jest to możliwe dzięki wieloletniemu doświadczeniu wspólnego muzykowania - Shay Hazan od dawna gra w kwartecie Alberta Begera, który z Hamidem Drake'iem zna się od ponad 20 lat (dwie wspaniałe części "Evolving Silence" tria Hamid Drake, Albert Beger, William Parker nagrano w 2005), Ziv Taubenfeld z kolei od dekady współpracuje w różnych zespołach z Shay'em Hazanem.
Intrygujący muzyczny wszechświat wykreowany przez ten wspaniały kwartet ciąży ku wolnej formie, narracja w poszczególnych częściach systematycznie rozwarstwia się, nie tracąc jednak wewnętrznej dynamiki. Współbrzmienia saksofonu tenorowego z ciemnym brzmieniem basowego klarnetu doskonale kontrowane są przez czułą na niuanse i dramaturgiczne smaczki sekcję rytmiczną. Muzycy świetnie na siebie reagują, wszystko tutaj zdaje się śpiewać i jednocześnie rezonować - doskonałe nagranie!
