The Residents next release will be an album entitled Demons Dance Alone. Not much is known about this upcoming release, except that (according to a press release by the Cryptic Corporation): "Having been written, for the most part, in the days following September 11th, the album captures a quite different side of The Residents, a vulnerable uncertain Eyeball asks questions which have no answers."
Two tracks from the album were included on the Petting Zoo collection: Betty's Body and Wolverines.

The guitar work from the the Wormwood tour and Roadworms is very much in evidence in these two tracks. The songs also feature strong, almost dance-able beats -- Betty's Body is downright catchy -- but the sound is unmistakably Residential.

Betty's Body is also notable for some interesting rhyming schemes in its lyrics, of a sort that reminds me of Tom Lehrer. They break phrases in the middle, which makes for an effective off-balanced feel, and rhyme on the last two syllables.

The Residents świętują swoje 30. urodziny (czy aby na pewno 30-ste?)! Mając 30 lat, wcale się nie zestarzeli, choć niektórzy sądzą, że Residents to nie ludzie...
Tak jakby 30-lecie nie było wystarczającym powodem do świętowania (patrz: składankowa płyta "Petting Zoo") nasłynniejsi anonimowi muzycy w historii muzyki rockowej nagrali swój pierwszy naprawdę nowy album od 1998 roku: "Demons Dance Alone". Jest to zbiór dziwnie zdeformownych popowych piosenek, które świetnie można nucić nawet przy goleniu...

Na tej płycie Residents powracają do swoich popowych korzeni i wytwarzają tą niesamowitą i dla nich jedynie charakterystyczną energię dekonstrukcji popu, która ich wczesne albumy takie jak "Duck Stab", "The Commercial Album" i "Stars & Hank" uczyniła klasykami swoich czasów.

"Demons.." to, jak każdy wcześniejszy ich album, zdecydowanie najodważniejsza propozycja Residents (tak chyba mawiano o wszystkich kolejnych płytach w ciągu tych 30 lat), pop aż do bólu, bedący z jednej strony ironiczną karykaturą muzyki z list przebojów, a z drugiej, dzięki rozpoznawalnemu zawsze i wszędzie brzmieniu, kolejnym kamieniem milowym w historii muzyki pop...

Tytuł ten ukazał się także w wersji deluxe, limitowanej do 3000 ręcznie numerowanych egzemplarzy, zawierającej płytę dodatkową, wydanej w formie książeczki w wytłaczanej atłasowej obwolucie, dla każdego fana Residents to łakomy kąsek...
