Archer Prewitt Renaissance man? If there was ever a candidate, Archer Prewitt is it. Prewitt is an accomplished illustrator, comic artist (Sof' Boy is published by Drawn and Quarterly.), guitarist for the Coctails and The Sea & Cake, some time drummer for Edith Frost, as well the maker of the Coctails novelty items (remember the cloth action figures?). As a solo artist, Prewitt has released 2 albums and an EP on Carrot Top records. Three , the first for Thrill Jockey, was written and produced by Archer Prewitt, who plays guitar and sings lead vocals. Archer 's all star band returns with a few special guests. The main group consists of Mark Greenberg (the Coctails) on bass, Dave Max Crawford (Poi Dog Pondering) on keyboards and brass, Chris Manfrin (Seam) on drums, Steve Goulding (Graham Parker & The Rumor, Poi Dog, Mekons...) on drums, and string arranger Paul Mertens (Brian Wilson, Poi Dog) on flutes, saxophone. Three featured guest Matt Clark (Joan Of Arc) on guitar, Ted Cho (Poi Dog ) on guitar, Ben Utley on guitar, Noel Kupersmith (Brokeback, Chicago Underground Quartet) on upright bass, and backing vocals by Kelly Hogan and Nora O'Connor. The new album is a thoroughly modern and vibrant release, embracing the sonic feel of classic early 70's pop and British folk.

Jeszcze jeden zerkający ku pop neotradycjonalista z Chicago. Solowy projekt gitarzysty Sea & Cake odgrzewa echa barokowej pop psychodelii, soul rocka lat 70. i łączy je z estetyką folkowej ballady. Liryczna ekspresja lidera lokuje się gdzieś pomiędzy Royem Harperem a Daevidem Allenem. A jego idolem jest najwyraźniej roześmiany Brian Wilson. Jak przystało na tę scenę klasa aranżacji, kompozycji i brzmienie, sprawia, iż to zdecydowanie więcej, niż popowa sieczka dnia dzisiejszego. Niemniej patos i lukier nieco przesłaniają smaczki.

"Three" to album w nowoczesny sposób wskrzeszający tradycję klasycznego brytyjskiego rocka, folk-rocka i psychodelii lat 60-70-tych. Słychać inspirację i echa twórczością Roya Harpera, The Beatles, The Impressions, a nawet wczesnych Bee Gees. Przyjemne popowe melodie, aranżacje nierzadko wzbogacone fantastycznymi smyczkami i dęciakami oraz żeńskimi chórkami, jak za dawnych dobrych czasów :). Bardzo "romantyczna" i optymistyczna muzyka.
