The release of the album “January” – recorded in New York with producer Manfred Eichler in early 2007 – brought with it a change in the name of the trio. The band adopted the name Marcin Wasilewski Trio. The musicians jointly decided that piano trios are traditionally identified by their pianists. In addition, Marcin is the main composer of the band. The album contains 4 of his own compositions, including the beautiful, title song “The First Touch”.
The album also includes covers. At the producer’s urging, the band performs compositions “Vignette” by Gary Peacock and “King Korn” by Carla Bley, associated with two great pianists, Keith Jarrett and Paul Bley, respectively. Wasilewski does not shy away from a challenge, and together with his colleagues from the trio, they make something of their own out of this music.
The trio also plays “Balladyna” by Tomasz Stańko, a piece they often perform together during concerts with our great artist. The album also includes an acoustic interpretation of Prince's 1991 ballad "Dimonds and Pearls" and "Cinema Paradiso," the title theme to Giuseppe Tornatore's 1988 film. The album ends with the trio's improvisation "New York 2007," a free-form ballad created in a time and place characteristic of itself.

Wydanie Albumu “January” – nagranego w Nowym Jorku z producentem Manfredem Eichlerem na początku 2007 roku niesie za sobą zmianę nazwy tria. Zespół przyjął nazwę Marcin Wasilewski Trio. Muzycy wspólnie uznali, że tria fortepianowe są tradycyjnie już identyfikowane poprzez swoich pianistów. Poza tym Marcin jest głównym kompozytorem zespołu. Na płycie znajdują się 4 utwory jego autorstwa w tym przepiękny, tytułowy “The First Touch”.
Na płycie znalazły się też covery. Za namową producenta, zespół wykonuje kompozycje “Vignette” Gary’ego Peacock’a i “King Korn” Carli Bley, kojarzone z dwoma wielkimi pianistami, odpowiednio Keithem Jarretem i Paulem Bley’em. Wasilewski nie cofa się przed wyzwaniem, a razem ze swoimi kolegami z tria, robią z tej muzyki coś swojego.
Trio gra także „Balladynę” Tomasza Stańki, utwór który często wykonują wspólnie koncertując z naszym wielkim artystą. Ponadto na płycie znajdziemy akustycznie zinterpretowaną balladę Prince’a „Dimonds and Pearls” z 1991 roku oraz „Cinema Paradiso” tytułowy temat do filmu Giuseppe Tornatore’a z 1988 roku.
Płytę zamyka improwizacja tria “New York 2007”, swobodna ballada powstała w charakterystycznym dla siebie miejscu i czasie.
