Red Morocco is the first recording of this size since 1979 by New York saxophonist and flautist Joe Giardullo. It is also the fruit, a culmination of his long years of study and work on creative compositional techniques based on George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Theory of Tonal Organization. Giardullo expands on his ideas, bringing to them compositions enriched by contemporary experiences and techniques for working with large ensembles – a profound experience of free improvisation by seemingly unrelated partners and instrumentalists. The result is unique music for a large collective of improvisers – both creative and dynamic.
