This album features Polish clarinet player Waclaw Ziempiel and American drummer Tom Daisy in series of duets and
quartets with special quests: American - Dave Rempisa (The Vandermark 5, Triage, Ken Vandermark's Territory Band,
Dave Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten Quintet, Ken Vandermark's Resonance Project) and
Ukrainian - Marka Tokara (Ken Vandermark's Resonance Project, Yatoku).
All material was recorded live at Alchemia club in Krakow but without public participation.

A month ago I praised Polish clarinettist Wacław Zimpel for his playing on "The Light". Now he teams up with Tim
Daisy on drums, whose quartet release "1,000 Lights" I reviewed only yesterday. Seems like these guys have found
each other under the right luminiscence, for this duo outing, which is expanded by Dave Rempis on alto and tenor
saxophones, and by Mark Tokar on bass on two of the seven tracks on this album. Both Daisy and Rempis are
members of the Vandermark 5, yet here there music is more abstract, more free, moving in the direction of what I
heard of Zimpel and Tokar before. There is rhythm for sure, there is melodic tension, but very implicit, painted in
broad strokes, leaving lots of opportunities to change, alter, accentuate, dialogue, and crackling with anticipation and
subtle touches. And if Zimpel and Daisy manage to create wonderful interaction on the five duets, Rempis and Tokar
add a dimension to the music, with "Chorale" as the highlight. If you listen to the album in one go, it moves from the
light-footed and intense duets into two more dramatic, darker quartet pieces, even if one is called "Basement Of Joy",

Pierwsze wspólne nagranie Tima Daisy'ego, Wacława Zimpla z gościnnym udziałem w dwóch utworach chicagowskiego saksofonisty Dave Rempisa (The Vandermark 5, Triage, Ken Vandermark's Territory Band, Dave Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten Quintet, Ken Vandermark's Resonance Project) i Marka Tokara (Ken Vandermark's Resonance Project, Yatoku). Materiał został zarejestrowany 4 kwietnia 2008 w krakowskim klubie Alchemia bez udziału publiczności. Płyta zawiera duetowe i kwartetowe improwizacje w oparciu o wcześniej uzgodnioną strukturę improwizacji - w jednym tylko utworze wykorzystano fragment kompozycji Antona Weberna z Kantaty II (Chorale). Płyta bdzie miała także swój "dalszy ciąg" - trasa koncertowa kwartetu Dave Rempis / Wacław Zimpel / Tim Daisy / Mark Tokar oraz rejestracja kolejnego materiału - tym razem w oparciu o autorskie kompozycje muzyków - odbędzie się dniach 16-22 lutego 2009 roku.

Poezja i humor to siła wspólnej płyty Zimpla i Daisy'ego

Polski młody jazz coraz lepiej radzi sobie na arenie międzynarodowej. Coraz częściej także nasi artyści podejmują współpracę z czołowymi muzykami z Zachodu. "Four Walls" to wspaniałe świadectwo takiej kooperacji. Grającemu na klarnecie basowym Wacławowi Zimplowi towarzyszy Tim Daisy, perkusista Vandermark 5, najważniejszej formacji światowego avant-jazzu ostatnej dekady.
Basklarnet to instrument z równym powodzeniem odnajdujący się w klimacie ludycznej groteski, jak i na gruncie nobliwej, poważnej kameralistyki. Zimpel oscyluje między tymi biegunami, sięgając po frywolne zagrywki, jak i pełne zadumy motywy. Jego partie, iście karkołomnymi, nie stroniącymi od sonorystycznych eksperymentów figurami obudowuje Daisy.
