The group Koňaboj is releasing their third studio album named after the title song “Zdálo sa ně, zdálo“. On the new album the band keeps to their well-proven approach from two previous albums. The album “Zdálo sa ně, zdálo...“ is full of folk songs from different regions of Moravia and Slovakia and its diversity can be found in both regions, from which the songs were selected, and in their processing.
The brand new sound which the band
is bringing to this album is also worth of noticing; it is based primarily on simple and very light arrangements. All of this is the result of personnel changes which occurred since the last album “Omalovánky“. Koňaboj was founded in 2002 but the recording of the new album almost didn’t happen, as David Řehák confides. “We had some serious personal problems which at one time even threatened the very existence of the group. Currently it is only five of us; from the original group only Jiřina ©ánová, Milan ©ána and me have remained. On the other hand, I’m glad we are again fully functional and we have huge desire to play.”“
“Current songs are based on rather rawer sound and very light arrangements. And the variety of instruments is something that Milan had to deal with and now he plays almost each song on different instrument… just check out the booklet and you’ll see,” David Řehák praises his fellow musician Milan ©ána and although he largely balanced the personnel changes in the recording, there are also guests on this album. The most important guest is with absolutely no doubt the Eastern Slovakian folk and spiritual singer Anna Servicka who is also the author of some of the songs on this CD and with whom the band has been working for several years. Also Roman Veverka and his cymbal are very remarkable on this album.
