"I am 1_____0" – a video art project by Piotr Bartos

"I am 1_____0" is a video art project comprised of a series of pictures. The author himself describes it as follows:
"The video art film I am 1_____0 is the end of a chapter of sorts in my work connected to playing with moving images. It consists of 10 images, 10 takes from the first till the last – ‘zero’ – take.
The collection of films is a story about anxiety, evanescence and finally about the end, i.e. death, which we are so scared of. The beginning is the end, the end is the beginning. In the film I confront my fears, which we all have. An image contains more sense and meaning, that is what cinema is all about, painting a picture, saying as little as possible and capturing the meaning in it – it’s an art."

The music to "I am 1_____0" was written by Mateusz Ryczek, who describes the undertaking as follows:

"The inspiration for creating the music to 1_____0 was drawn from the picture itself (which had been created earlier), as well as from different facets of the human voice. I think it is an absolutely singular kind of symbiosis of sound and image, because in this case they coexist in a similar way, only in different dimensions. It is sort of a terminal between the two worlds, where image becomes sound, and sound image. That is how I take it – synesthetically. And I think that is how it should by approached, as a coexistence of the two. When writing the music for the film I made use of many recordings of the singer Blanka Dembosz’s voice, which is so transformed at times that it is hard to recognise where the sounds have been taken from. In all of this there is also a certain mathematical idea, which is a kind of DNA peculiar to the whole composition. This DNA transforms the sounds, builds suspense, and creates colour... Most importantly this structure is hidden from the listener, who doesn’t.......

"Jestem 1_____0" to projekt videoartowy, składający się z cyklu obrazów. Sam autor mówi o nim tak:
“Film videoartowy Jestem 1_____0 jest zamknięciem umnie pewnego rozdziału związanego z zabawą z ruchomym obrazem. Jest zawarte w nim 10 obrazów ,10 ujęć od pierwszego do ujęcia ostatniego zerowego. .
Zbiór tych filmów jest opowieścią o lęku , przemijaniu i finalnie o końcu czyli śmierci której tak bardzo się boimy. Początek jest końcem, koniec jest początkiem. Rozprawiam się w tym filmie z moimi lękami, które każdy z nas ma. Więszy sens i znaczenia są zawarte w obrazie na tym polega kino, obrazować jak najmniej mówić i zawrzeć w tym sens to jest sztuka.”


Autorem muzyki do "Jestem 1_____0" jest Mateusz Ryczek, który o przedsięwzięciu mówi następująco:
"Inspiracją do stworzenia muzyki do 1_____0 był sam obraz (powstał on wcześniej), jak również różne oblicza głosu ludzkiego. Myślę, że to zupełnie szczególny rodzaj symbiozy dźwięku i obrazu, ponieważ one w tym przypadku współistnieją w podobny sposób, tylko w innych wymiarach. Jest to jakby terminal między dwoma światami, gdzie obraz staje się dźwiękiem, a dźwięk obrazem. Ja to tak właśnie odbieram - synestezyjnie. I sądzę, że tak należałoby do tego podchodzić, jak do w s p ó ł i s t n i e n i a obojga. W muzyce do tego filmu wykorzystałem wiele nagrań głosu śpiewaczki Blanki Dembosz, który czasem jest tak mocno przetworzony, że trudno rozpoznać pochodzenie dźwięków. Jest w tym wszystkim również pewna idea matematyczna, która jest swoistym DNA całej kompozycji. To DNA przetwarza dźwięki, buduje napięcia, tworzy barwy… Co najważniejsze, owa struktura jest ukryta przed słuchaczem, który nie potrzebuje uświadamiania jej sobie, aby odbierać moją muzykę, tak samo, jak nie musimy znać swojego DNA aby żyć."
