King (występujący pod pseudonimem BB King) urodził się 16 września 1925 roku w Itta Bena w stanie Missisipi. Razem z Albertem Kingiem i Freddiem Kingiem jest zaliczany do trzech królów bluesa.
Jego muzyka zaliczana jest do stylów Memphis Blues, Modern Electric Blues i Soul Blues. W 1980 roku B.B. King został wprowadzony do Blues Hall of Fame, a w 1987 roku do Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (...) Dorastałem, słuchając muzyki z Delty Missisipi, ale nigdy nie potrafiłem grać jak Bukka White! Zawsze chciałem grać jak Lonnie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson czy nawet Jimmy Rogers. Uwielbiałem też Django Reinhardta, ale kiedy zobaczyłem, jak T-Bone Walker wywija na jednej strunie na gitarze elektrycznej, doznałem absolutnego olśnienia. Próbowałem naśladować moich idoli, ale z drugiej strony nie chodziło mi o ich dokładne kopiowanie. Byłem trochę buntownikiem i chciałem grać po swojemu, tak jak czułem. Często mnie za to krytykowano, dziennikarze pisali, że gram "rozmytego bluesa". No cóż, jeśli naprawdę tak uważają, mogą tak pisać. Nie obchodzi mnie to. Po prostu gram, jak gram!(...)
