A dog barks during a trumpet solo and a car alarm ends a piece: this is reality music, music coming from everyday life. It couldn’t be any other way, considering that the people involved are the most political and social motivated musicians of our times, namely Martin Kuchen, the Trespass Trio mentor and soul, and Joe McPhee, a veteran of the Black Consciousness struggles through sound since the years of “Freedom and Unity”, with Clifford Thornton, and “Nation Time”. “Human Encore”, the result of a live collaboration between the Swedish band and the American legendary saxophonist and trumpeter which took place during three days in the Portuguese city of Coimbra, configures all the existing motivations: the music is indeed “transgressive”. There’s emotions here, pain, fury and joy in mixed terms. In a time when some try to empty musical expression from feelings and states of mind, this is really an infringement, going against the stream. This is jazz like it used to be 40 years ago, full of heat and purpose, but with the concepts, vocabulary and techniques of today. It tells us about the “fires” going on («more and more of them», says Kuchen), in Palestine, in Europe and all the places where mankind shows that we never learn.

"Wiele ciepłych słów padło na temat dwóch płyt, jakie Trespass Trio pod wodzą Martina Kuchena zarejestrowało dla portugalskiej wytwórni Clean Feed. Pozwolę sobie przywołać tutaj jednego z polskich recenzentów, który o ostatnim nagraniu tej formacji pisał tak: "...Każdy kto zna dokonania formacji Angles wie, że Martin Kuchen jest znakomitym kompozytorem, cechą wyróżniającą go od innych to zdecydowana, ale nie agresywna, spójna, ale różnorodna struktura utworów. Dlatego pewnie, jego muzyka pojawia się nie tylko w kontekście czysto jazzowym, pisze dla teatrów, filmów i do spektakli tańca współczesnego, choć nigdy nie jest to muzyka ilustracyjna, wbudowana jest w nią jakaś osobista narracja kompozytora.
Pisze dużo i wielonurtowo, jego kompozycje czasami łączą jazzową improwizację z estetyką muzyki sakralnej (np. "Ein Krieg In Einem Kind") by za chwilę dać upust czystej, niczym nieskrępowanej energii (jak w "Bruder Beda ist Nicht Mehr", czy w "A Different Koko"). (...) Po raz kolejny bardzo osobista, skupiona narracja Kuchena zachwyca uważnego słuchacza, saksofonista wspomagany jest przez kontrabasistę Pera Zanussiego, który grając pizzicato jak i arco jest jak kotwica, fundament, na którym wznosi się muzyczna budowla, perkusista Raymond Strid, mistrz barwy i dynamiki potrafi zagrać bardzo dynamicznie, nadając muzyce porywającą motorykę, a jednocześnie, co rusz wyzwala perkusję z typowej dla niej rytmicznej funkcji (jak w "Todays Better Than Tomorrow")...".

Można by podpisać się tymi słowami zachwytu, wszystko to prawda, ale w moim odczuciu - jak dotąd - twórczość norweskiego saksofonisty - czy to z ramach Angles czy też Trespass Trio - wydawała się jakby niepełna, jakby czegoś tej pięknej muzyce brakowało. I teraz oto prawdziwym objawieniem jest dla mnie najnowsza płyta zespołu, zarejestrowana w kwartecie z gościnnym udziałem amerykańskiego saksofonisty i trębacza Joe McPhee.

McPhee, dzisiaj już jeden z nestorów muzyki improwizowanej.......
