Kevin Drew is the frontman of Broken Social Scene, solo recording artists, and co-owner of independent music company Arts & Crafts. His 2007 solo debut, Spirit If..., was widely loved for unearthing the affirmative grooves and experimental pop songwriting churning at the heart of indie vanguards Broken Social Scene. Darlings, his first solo recording since, showcases Drew's more mature pop sensibilities and his earnest and playful lyrics soaring over hook-laden songs like first single “Good Sex”.

In the tradition of post-Velvets Lou Reed or post-Genesis Peter Gabriel, Darlings shows Drew stepping out to create a breakthrough personal statement of true artistry.

Darlings was recorded at the Banff Centre in Alberta with Graham Lessard and then taken to a house in Northern Ontario with Dave Hamelin (The Stills, Eight and a Half) for final recording and mixing. The album also features longtime collaborators Charles Spearin and Ohad Benchetrit (Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene) along with Dean Stone (Apostle of Hustle). Darlings was co-produced by Kevin Drew, Graham Lessard, and, for the first time, Dave Hamelin.

I made this record surrounded by mountains and lakes with the greatest people to work with. Charlie and Ohad have been with me since I began making records. I call their style of playing "RIVER AND CANOE." They have been playing together since high school and move around each other with an original melodic grace and ease. There is no one out there like them. Working with Dean Stone was something I've wanted to do ever since I watched his old funk band on speed during my late teens.

I met Graham Lessard in Banff and he is a wonderful engineer who inspired great sessions from us. Spent a couple of weeks out there then put it on hold so I could finish up the record I was making with Andy Kim. Andy became a big inspiration for me in the idea of the ma.......

Jest o powstaniu i upadku miłości i seksu w moim własnym życiu i w dzisiejszym społeczeństwie. Te tematy były ze mną od lat. Skupiłem się na samych piosenkach, zostawiając za sobą  wszystkie triki i eksplozje.
Album Darlings był nagrywany w Banff Centre w Albercie z Grahamem Lessardem przy konsolecie. Grahama Lessarda spotkałem w Banff. Jest wspaniałym i bardzo inspirującym inżynierem dźwięku. Spędziłem tam kilka tygodni, po czym miałem chwilę, aby dokończyć płytę z Andy'm Kimem, nad którą pracowaliśmy. Andy stał się dla mnie wielką inspiracją. Sądzę, że bez udziału Andy Kim, ten album w ogóle by nie powstał.
Nad miksami pracował z Dave'em Hamelinem (The Stills, Eight And A Half) w północnym Ontario. Zaproszenie do tego projektu Dave'a Hamelina i jego wspaniałych brzmień, było czymś wspaniałym. Niesamowitym doświadczeniem było obserwować go w roli producenta i inżyniera odpowiedzialnego za miks. Wprowadził niesamowitą energię i pomógł mi odnaleźć moje piosenki.
