Editor's info:
Ha-Yang Kim is a cellist and composer of striking originality whose musical influences draw equally from a range of western classical music, American experimentalism, rock, noise, and improvised music, to non-western musical sources from Bali, Korea and South Indian classical music. For her second CD on Tzadik she presents a major new composition for string quartet, performed here by the world renowned JACK quartet. Dedicated to Jewish poet Paul Celan, “Threadsuns” combines traditional sounds with extended string techniques to create a poetic world of lyricism, harmony and texture. A major new work by this cutting edge composer from Korea.
1-3. Threadsuns, for string quartet 2008/2012:
i 15:30
ii 15:50
iii 13:56
Koreańska kompozytorka i wiolonczelistka Ha-Yang Kim zadziwia uderzającą oryginalnością, jej muzyczne inspiracje wyznaczają bardzo szeroko ramy dzieła, zachodnia muzyka klasyczna, amerykańska awnagrada, rock, noise, muzyka improwizowana i oczywiście wschodnie dziedzictwo kulturowe z Bali, Korei Południowej i Indii.
Druga płyta wydana dla wytwórni Johna Zorna to trzy kompozycje powstałe pomiędzy 2008 i 2012 rokiem, napisane na kwartet smyczkowy. Światowej sławy JACK quartet w składzie Kevin McFarland - Cello, Christopher Otto - Violin, John Pickford Richards - Viola i Ari Streisfeld - Violin jest porównywany do Arditti Quartet, Kronos Quartet czy też Muir String Quartet, zbiera na świecie doskonałe recenzje:
"explosive virtuosity" - Boston Globe
"viscerally exciting performances" - New York Times
"The string quartet may be a 250-year-old contraption, but young, brilliant groups like the JACK Quartet are keeping it thrillingly vital" - The Washington Post
'complete string quartets as being "exceptional" and "beautifully harsh" - New Yorker
Rygorystyczna struktura kompozycji napisanej na kwartet smyczkowy, przy zaskakujących stylistycznych zabiegach, przynosi wiele satysfakcji otwartemu na nowe doznania słuchaczowi.
