Trapist is the Vienna based trio comprised of Joe Williamson on bass, Martin Siewert on guitar and Martin Brandlmayr on drums. Together the members of Trapist are a group of experienced improvisers who collectively like to explore and question familiar surroundings and contexts for both art and music. Thinking not only of melody and emotional elements in music, Trapist look additionally at structures and forms.

Trapist may be deliberate and sparse in nature, but Ballroom is a record that speaks volumes. Their unique blend of improvisation and delicate electronics is a welcome and refreshing change for fans of electronic, jazz and improvisational music.

Though relatively young, the members of Trapist have collaborated with a list of impressive players including Han Bennink, Evan Parker, Paul Lovens, Eugene Chadbourne, Elliot Sharp, Ken Vandermark, Christian Fennez, Kevin Drumm, Dean Roberts and Stefan Schneider among others.

Recommended for fans of The Wire magazine and music released on the labels Mego, Okka, Tzadik, Morr Music and Atavistic.

Wiedeńscy improwizatorzy doskonale odnajdują się w barwach wytwórni Thrill Jockey. Ich muzyka odległa jest od noise'owego radykalizmu i dźwiękowej zawiesistości, z którymi kojarzy się tamta scena, a jeśli już o nie zahacza to w odległym stonowanym planie. Blisko jej natomiast do elektroniczno – akustycznych, zawieszonych w postrockowej abstrakcji oszczędnych i płynnych klimatów Chicago. Miękka motoryka prowadzi poprzez smaczki jazzu, folku, ambient, psychodelii, podlegając niekiedy bardziej intensywnym elektronicznym emisjom brzmieniowym - to dają o sobie znać groźne niekiedy w swym podskórnym, szumiącym życiu tła i swobodny nerw improwizacji. W sumie dobre antidotum na estetyzujące mielizny sceny chicagowskiej. Realizowany przez Trapist pomysł na swoistą wypadkową Chicago i Wiednia jest świetny, ale potraktowany bez pretensji do wyczerpania, raczej impresyjnie i niezobowiązująco. Grupę tworzą Martin Brandlmayr z Radian, Martin Siewert i wyśmienity basista Joe Williamson. Jak na ten skład to raczej miłe, odprężające granie.
