Limited edition 2CD set in gatefold replica with printed inner sleeves.
Self-released by the band, officially distributed by Instant Classic.
Faro is a solo endeavor by Robert Iwanik (Krzycz, Rope, Alchimia) of bass, voice and percussion. The debut album, Roma, features guest appearances from some of Iwanik’s closest friends and relatives – Doug Scharin (Codeine, HiM, Rex, June of 44, Enablers), Darin Gray (Dazzling Killmen, You Fantastic!, Grand Ulena, Jim O’Rourke, On Fillmore, Chikamorachi, Tweedy), Eugene S. Robinson (Oxbow), Grazyna Auguscik, Dawud Mateen (Alchimia), and Przemyslaw Drazek (Krzycz, Rope, Mako Sica).
The album consists of two chapters, each continuously flowing through a variety of motions. From sparse ambient to pulsating grooves, meticulously enriched with a broad spectrum of percussion, drones, female and male voice. It plays like a soundtrack to a collection of visually stimulating vignettes.
Iwanik relocated to Chicago from his native Poland in 2000 following his passion for music. He was a founding member of an avant-mood-swing outfit, Rope, with which he released three albums on Family Vineyard Records and toured the U.S. extensively. In 2007 he relocated to Seattle where he founded the ambient jazz trio Alchimia and released two albums on Instant Classic Records. As of fall of 2012, Iwanik calls San Diego, CA his home.
On Roma, he reflects on life experiences at the turn of its next decade and draws inspirations from Southern California’s rich nature and people that surround him, most of whom are in fact part of the record. The album artwork, also designed by Iwanik, features elements of nature that reflect the intricacies and diversity of sounds on the album.
Roma was recorded, mixed, and produced by Doug Scharin at his Activities of Dust studio in San Marcos, CA.
