Drogi is my hommage to Polish Radio Experimental Studio, a pioneering center for electraocustic music, and one of the Studio`s outstadning composers - Bohdan Mazurek.

His compositions are characterized not only by very sophisticated synthesized sound aesthetics but also by distinct anticinpations of more popular electronic music genres, such as ambient or intelligent dance music. However, what was even more important for me is the fact that to some extent the music of Mazurek and my music share some sort of a common mood: on one hand very serious, event bitter, on the other hand - full of insider jokes and sudden twist in the narrative. The peculiar sense of humour is what stroke me while reading more about Mazurek, as well as his attitude towards nature, especially the mountains. It appeared that on numerous occasions he was going straight into his studio after coming back from a hiking trip. Actually, it happens to me quite often as well!
Therfore, I decided not to simply revitalise works of the old master by means of sampling and remixing. Instead I recreated original Mazurek`s sound world in my own compositions, following his offbeat approach towards sound, utilising a range of sources and techniques: from my teenage tape recordings, through digital sound sythesis to modern sample editing. I hope I have bridged different definitions, eras and generations of electronic music.
It is tempting to see the history of Polish contemporary music as a succession of simple oppositions. Avant-garde versus reaction, sonorism versus New Romanticism, tape versus orchestra. The case of Andrzej Dobrowolski (1921–1990) undermines these dialectical systems and breaks free from the established order (similarly to the cases of Tomasz Sikorski or Roman Haubenstock-Ramati).

Jego utwory chrakteryzuj± siê z jednej strony wyrafinowan± estetyk± syntetycznego brzmienia, z drugiej za¶ - elementami zapowiadaj±cymi bardziej popualrne kierunki, jak ambient czy inteligentna muzyka taneczna. Dla mnie o wiele istotniejsza okaza³a siê jednak szczególna aura, ³±cz±ca do pewnego stopnia muzykê Mazurka z moimi w³asnymi dokonaniami - powa¿na, chwilami nawet gorzka, a zarazem naznaczona subtelnymi ¿artami i zaskakuj±cymi zwrotami akcji. Gdy czyta³em o Mazurku, uderzy³o mnie w³a¶nie jego osoboliwe poczucie humoru, a tak¿e stosunek do natury, zw³aszcza do gór. Okaza³o siê, ¿e bardzo czêsto wchodzi³ on do studia prosto z górskiej wycieczki. Zupe³nie jak jak...
Dlatego zrezygnowa³em z pomys³u od¶wie¿ania dorobku dawnego mistrza po prostu przez jego samplowanie i remiksowanie. Zamiast tego spróbowa³em odtworzyæ brzmieniowy ¶wiat Mazurka w moich autorskich kompozycjach, pod±¿aj±c tropem jego frywolnego stosunku do d¼wiêku i wykorzystuj±c rozleg³y wachlarz ¶rodków oraz technik: od moich m³odzieñczych nagrañ magnetofonowych, przez cyfrow± syntezê d¼wiêku, po wspó³czesn± edycj± próbek. Mam nadziejê, ¿e uda³o mi siê pogodziæ ró¿ne definicje, epoki i pokolenia muzyki elektronicznej.
