Kuba Więcek – saxophonist, winner of numerous awards and distinctions (including the Fryderyk and Mateusz Trójka for the album Another Raindrop – the first debut in the cult Polish Jazz series in 28 years) regularly performing all over the world. Mateusz Gawęda, one of the most expressive jazz pianists in the country, leader and member of many, often stylistically very distant bands (including Mateusz Gawęda Trio, Silberman, Cracow Jazz Collective). The joint project of Kuba Więcek and Mateusz Gawęda is easiest to look at through the prism of the American jazz tradition, to which Berry is an undoubted nod, while the music of the quintet is far from transparent patterns. The mere presence of Ralph Alessi in the line-up gives food for thought. Alessi, an active composer and improviser for almost three decades, has worked hard to earn the status of a living legend. He has played, among others, with Ravi Coltrane, Jason Moran and Fred Hersch, releases his albums on the ECM label, is the director of the School for Improvisational Music in New York. Więcek met the trumpeter during one of his trips to the States. The musicians immediately hit it off, which resulted in a joint tour and recording session in November 2016. The line-up is complemented by one of the strongest rhythm sections in Europe, namely Max Mucha and Moritz Baumgärtner. Berry features only Więcek and Gawęda's own compositions, the character and diversity of which only confirm the class and potential of both musicians.

Mateusz Gawęda, jeden z najbardziej wyrazistych pianistów jazzowych w kraju, lider i członek wielu, niejednokrotnie bardzo odległych od siebie stylistycznie zespołów (m.in. Mateusz Gawęda Trio, Silberman, Cracow Jazz Collective). Na wspólny projekt Kuby Więcka i Mateusza Gawędy najprościej patrzeć przez pryzmat amerykańskiej jazzowej tradycji, w stronę której Berry stanowi niewątpliwy ukłon, przy czym muzyka kwintetu daleka jest od przezroczystych schematów. Już sama obecność w składzie Ralpha Alessiego daje do myślenia. Alessi, aktywny od blisko trzech dekad kompozytor i improwizator ciężko zapracował na status żywej legendy. Grał m.in. z Ravim Coltrane'em, Jasonem Moranem czy czy Fredem Herschem, wydaje swoje płyty w wytwórni ECM, jest dyrektorem School for Improvisional Music w Nowym Jorku. Więcek poznał trębacza podczas jednej ze swoich podróży do Stanów. Muzycy z miejsca złapali doskonały kontakt, czego owocem była wspólna trasa i sesja nagraniowa w listopadzie 2016. Dopełnieniem składu jest jedna z najmocniejszych sekcji rytmicznych w Europie, czyli Max Mucha i Moritz Baumgärtner. Na Berry trafiły wyłącznie autorskie kompozycje Więcka i Gawędy, których charakter i zróżnicowanie tylko potwierdza klasę i potencjał obu muzyków.
