The Black Heart Procession began in San Diego, CA circa 1997, when Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel put their other band Three Mile Pilot on an open-ended hiatus. While the Black Heart core members are Pall (vocals, guitar, synths, etc.) and Toby (piano, guitar, organ, etc.), you will often find Joe Plummer (drums) and Dimitri Dziensuwski (touring augmentation, moustache) and at times, other characters hiding under the BHP umbrella.
The Black Heart Procession will tour extensively in the United States and the world during 2002 and 2003. A DVD package is planned for release in the near future as well. The DVD will tell the tropical murder mystery of Amore del Tropico with each song being a chapter within the film.

Szyld wytwórni może być mylący, bo BHP to najbardziej klimatyczny zespół w legendarnej rockowej stajni Touch & Go. Grupą z San Diego proponuje swój czwarty i najlepszy do tej pory album. Ich muzyka wywodzi się z rockowej ballady noire (przestrzeń gdzieś pomiędzy Walkabouts a Tindersticks), ale w błyskotliwych aranżach dopieszcza ów rdzeń tak bogatym i wysmakowanych wachlarzem motywów, iż powstaje nowa, oryginalna jakość. Kapitalne partie wibrafonu i udział sekcji smyczkowej przydaje ich muzyce z lekka kameralistycznego szlifu – nie bez ukłonu w kierunku chicagowskiego avant folk (typu Pinetop Seven). Smak całości określają jednak na przemian bezpretensjonalne i dwuznaczne nawiązania do artystycznej muzyki kawiarnianej. To właśnie nadaje melancholijny pieśniom nowego, szczególnego kolorytu i czyni z "Amore" zjawisko wyjątkowe. Najlepszy balladowy album jaki ostatnio słyszałem.
