The album “WAWA” is a project celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. This year, the Warsaw Uprising Museum invited a unique figure of the Polish music scene – Brodka. A vocalist, lyricist, composer, director, and Fryderyk award winner. The artist took on the role of curator and artistic director.

This is a project about Warsaw – a city that is extremely important to me. I present history from the perspective of an individual in a large metropolitan area, but I am also interested in the energy circulating between artists who were inspired by it. Warsaw reminds me of living tissue, vibrant with life, jazz. I thought that the album would be largely instrumental and jazz. Because jazz is movement, constant change.

Working on “WAWA” gave me the opportunity to tell the story of the Uprising in an unconventional way, from the humanistic perspective. We transfer the emotions of the uprising, romanticism, the cruelty of war, uncertainty, melancholy, mourning to the music and the sounds that accompany it. That is why on this album I talk about this event through the analysis of different emotions. Through sounds I talk about our humanity, what we have been through. – says Brodka.

“WAWA” contains 10 songs – new, original compositions and covers, i.e. interpretations of songs that tell about Warsaw in a way that is unique to the artist. Among the guests invited by Brodka to pay tribute to the city were: Marcin Masecki, Sam Gendel, EABS, Hades, 2K88, Błoto, WaluśKraksaKryzys, The Brutals and Księżyc.

When working on the album – the most important thing for me is dialogue. Just dealing with the different sensitivities of the guests or different ways of thinking about this city is very important to me and this is what I will remember from this work. Album „WAWA” to projekt, uświetniający 80. rocznicę Powstania Warszawskiego. W tym roku Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego zaprosiło do współpracy wyjątkową postać polskiej sceny muzycznej – Brodkę. Wokalistkę, autorkę tekstów, kompozytorkę, reżyserkę, laureatkę Fryderyków. Artystka objęła rolę kuratorki oraz dyrektorki artystycznej.

To projekt o Warszawie – mieście dla mnie szalenie ważnym. Przedstawiam historię z perspektywy jednostki w dużej aglomeracji, ale interesuje mnie również energia krążąca między artystami, którzy się nią inspirowali. Warszawa kojarzy mi się z żywą tkanką, tętniącą życiem, jazzem. Pomyślałam, że płyta będzie w dużej mierze instrumentalno-jazzowa. Bo jazz to ruch, ciągła zmiana.

Praca nad “WAWĄ” dała mi możliwość opowiedzenia o Powstaniu w nieoczywisty sposób, od strony humanistycznej. Na muzykę i towarzyszące jej dźwięki przenosimy emocje zrywu, romantyzmu, okrucieństwa wojny, niepewności, melancholii, żałoby. Dlatego też na tej płycie mówię o tym wydarzeniu poprzez analizę różnych emocji. Poprzez dźwięki opowiadam o naszym człowieczeństwie, przez co przeszliśmy. – opowiada Brodka.

“WAWA” zawiera 10 utworów – nowych, oryginalnych kompozycji oraz coverów, czyli interpretacji utworów, które w niepowtarzalny dla artystki sposób opowiadają o Warszawie. Wśród gości, zaproszonych przez Brodkę do wspólnego hołdu dla miasta znaleźli się: Marcin Masecki, Sam Gendel, EABS, Hades, 2K88, Błoto, WaluśKraksaKryzys, The Brutals i Księżyc.

Pracując nad płytą – najważniejszy jest dla mnie dialog. Samo zmierzenie się z różną wrażliwością gości czy różnym myśleniem o tym mieście, jest dla mnie bardzo ważne i właśnie to zapamiętam z tej pracy. Poprzez kontrast w doborze artystów opowiadam emocjonalną historię, tak jak ja odbieram Warszawę – z całym jej brudem, misz-maszem architektonicznym i brakiem oczywistego piękna. – dodaj.......
