HORA Records is pleased to annouce the release of Unscientific Italians Play The Music of Bill Frisell – Volume 2 on November 25th 2022. This new chapter follows the acclaimed Volume 1, which was released in 2021 and received praise world-wide both from music critics and the community of Frisell Fans, leading the band to be awarded as ‘Band of the Year 2021’ by Italian jazz critics pool ‘Top Jazz’.
The ensemble Unscientific Italians, led by pianist, arranger and composer Alfonso Santimone, features some of the most gifted performers and bandleaders on the Italian scene: Fulvio Sigurtà and Mirco Rubegni on trumpet and flughelhorn, Filippo Vignato and Federico Pierantoni on trombone, Cristiano Arcelli, Piero Bittolo Bon, Francesco Bigoni, Rossano Emilli on reeds, Danilo Gallo on bass and Zeno De Rossi on drums.
The new volume will be published on vinyl, digitally, and in a special LTD edition Double CD together with the Vol.1 with the blessing of Bill Frisell himself, who generously offered some of his sketches for the covers artwork.
Bill Frisell is undoubtedly one of the most influential masters in today’s jazz landscape. However, his compositions remain unexplored, perhaps because of a lack of critical distance, perhaps because their apparent simplicity hides impenetrable folds to those who lack the right perspective.
Musically speaking, Unscientific Italians is not a tribute or an orchestral rendition of Frisell’s music, but rather an idiosyncratic rewriting and orchestration that borrows his compositional and instrumental language.
The first four tunes are a reinterpretation of the entire ‘Some Song and Dance’ suite from 1989 Frisell masterpiece album ‘Before We Were Born’

Zespół Unscientific Italians w corocznym Top Jazz wg. Włoskich krytyków jazzowych najlepsza jazzowa formacja 2021 roku. Było to po nagraniu "Unscientific Italians Play The Music of Bill Frisell". Teraz przyszedł czas na drugą część tego wspaniałego projektu, który "pobłogosławił" sam Bill Frisell i dodatkowo przesłał pakiet swoich rysunków, które jak się okazuje są nieodłączną częścią zapisów nutowych. Kompozycje zapisuje na małych karteczkach, które zalegają w jego pracowni, gdzie prężą muskuły jego gitary - kilka Gibsonów, Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Martin, Tacoma, Klein, Andersen i Yanuziello. Podobnie jak chociażby miał to w zwyczaju Sławomir Mrożek, opatruje je minimalistycznymi rysunkami. Możemy je teraz oglądać na okładce płyty.
Unscientific Italians prowadzony jest przez pianistę, aranżera i kompozytora Alfonso Santimone i gromadzi najbardziej utalentowanych muzyków włoskiej sceny jazzowej: Fulvio Sigurtà i Mirco Rubegni na trąbce i flughelhornie, Filippo Vignato i Federico Pierantoni na puzonnie, Cristiano Arcelli, Piero Bittolo Bon, Francesco Bigoni, Rossano Emilli na instrumentach stroikowych, Danilo Gallo na basie i Zeno De Rossi za perkusją. Jak widać w składzie nie ma gitarzysty, bo nie ma dzisiaj jazzowego gitarzysty ponad Billa Frisella!
Frisell ceniony jest szczególnie za homogeniczność stylu, który rozpoznamy bez względu czy gra jazz, americanę, swing czy pop. John Zorn, John Scofield, Joni Mitchell, Cassandra Willson, Laurie Anderson, Jan Garbarek, Norah Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Elvis Costello, Madonna, Norah Jones - to tylko krótki wybór artystów, z którymi współpracował. Chętnie przyjmuje oferty od filmowców, jego utwory słychać między innymi w filmach Wima Wendersa i Gusa Van Santa.
