The ZENNE Quartet is a Brussels-based string quartet that confronts new music with famous masterpieces ; together with composers and community partners, they connect people through music.
They have been a guest at festivals and venues such as Walden Festival, Flagey, Midis-Minimes, Musical Instruments Museum Brussels, Ars Musica, Les [Rencontres] Inattendues, Les Voix Intimes, Zomer van Sint-Pieter, Arte Amanti, Enghien International Music Encounters, Le Senghor, Karreveld Classic, La Tricoterie.
The quartet has premiered new works by Fanny Libert, Thomas Foguenne, Giuliano Bracci, André Ristic, Tim Vandenbergh, Lionel Ginoux, Philippe Festou, and Brussels-based composer Walter Hus. With Hus, a project is ongoing to perform and record his complete works for string quartet for the Sub Rosa Label. The collaboration is featured in the Documentary “Walter Hus, a musical journey” by Astrid Mertens.
Since 2022, the Zenne Quartet has been invited as a guest lecturer in the Classical Composing and Interactive and Applied Music (MAI) classes of prof. Thomas Foguenne at ARTS² Ecole Supérieure des Arts – Conservatoire Royal de Mons.
At a time when much artistic and social interaction has shifted to digital platforms, the quartet emphasizes the irreplaceable value of live performance and proximity to audiences, while it keeps questioning its role in society.
Since 2021, they have co-created and performed musical projects for young children with Jeugd & Muziek Brussel.
Through community projects such as the Cour Klassiek festival (with Manuela Bucher) and the chamber music series TW Classics 1190 (with GC Ten Weyngaert), the ZENNE Quartet invests in inclusive projects that reflect Brussels’ cultural diversity.
