Cinema are today presenting us with their debut album – Before The Dark, so called because of its lengthy gestation period, developing from first conception into a fully-formed album, ready to emerge into the world.

Dynamic duo Cinema first met when working for the Acme Library of Recorded Music for Film and Television in the early 70s. Their interest in quirky mood music and solid rhythmic foundations motivated early experiments with tape loops, gargantuan modular synths and bearded session musicians. Ostracised by their colleagues, their recordings languished in obscurity until being discovered recently in a skip outside the Acme building. Now released for the first time on 7 inch vinyl record, 'They Nicknamed Me Evil' evokes sheer terror, whilst the locked groove loops presented on the B side are continuous-play concepts for rhythmic accompaniments and additional elements, each finely tuned to perfectly underpin the A side piece, when played alongside. An associate from the Acme days, John Carpenter, perhaps sums it up best when he says: 'Those guys ripped me off.'
