In early March 2020, I performed my new set, short stories, at the church Kulturkirche Nikodemus in Berlin. The thing I didn’t realize that evening is that it would be my last solo performance before the world locked down.
Shortly thereafter, almost all my performances for 2020 were cancelled, and the world around me seemed to come apart at the seams. I could have never imagined that a year later, in the spring of 2021, musicians would still not be allowed to perform for live audiences. This time has been and remains extraordinary. At times, the silence is restorative – at others, it is unbearable.
In my short stories, I revisit memories of inspiring trips and the kind of encounters that make us come alive – everything that is and will be so precious to us in these unusual times.
