The Infinity Orchestra is based in the city of Bordeaux, capital of Aquitaine, where Kahil El’Zabar leads it in concert at the National Theater of Bordeaux and teaches two months each year at the Academy of Music. He began his Aquitaine adventures in 1980 when he brought his Ethnic Heritage Ensemble to the Bordeaux Jazz Festival. The student who booked him then, Patrick Duvall, became a sociologist; twenty years later, as the director of the Musique De Nuit organization, Duvall invited him to become their artist in residence at Bordeaux. With his French, 39-piece Infinity Orchestra El’Zabar presents bold compositions to challenge and enhance his improvisers.
