ON CD FOR THE FIRST TIME!
The Rome and Copenhagen performances by the 1969 Miles Davis Quintet with Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette. This band toured Europe from October 26 to November 9, 1969. In his autobiography, Miles would state that this group was "really a bad motherfucker".
Miles Davis would later recount in his autobiography: "After we finished In a Silent Way, I took the band out on the road; Wayne, Dave, Chick, and Jack DeJohnette were now my working band. Man, I wish this band had been recorded live because it was really a bad motherfucker. I think Chick Corea and a few other people recorded some of our performances live, but Columbia missed out on the whole fucking thing. We toured through the spring and up until August, when we went back into the studio again and recorded Bitches Brew." Although Miles was unaware of it at the time, most of these performances (such as the ones included here) were recorded by European TV and radio stations or by audience members. Some of these recordings are incomplete or do not have the best sound quality. However, they fully document this period of Miles Davis' music. Shorter left the band in the fall of 1969, and this quintet was to be soon replaced by new formations with even greater accent on percussion, fusion and funk.
