THE EX camping out in the main street of Shopping City, among flickering neon-signs and consumers masses. The image is clear: THE EX do whatever they wanna do. More than 20 years already.
On Dizzy Spells the characteristic style of THE EX dominates: nervous rhythms, supple swing, ultra-low bass, virulent guitars and pungent vocals. What's new is the apparent simplicity of the twelve songs. Therefore the focus is more on their impact than their structure. Very efficient and to the point, but definitely not less stirring. Suddenly there's swinging drums instead of repetitive patterns (Walt's Dizzyland). Or guitars duel a song into anywhich way (The Chair Needs Paint). In OSKAR BECK muffled guitars serve as an atmospheric fundament for the folky vocals and structure even appears to be totally put aside. All in all Dizzy Spells turns out to be a sort of greatest hits with new material only. In this context Town Of Stone is even convertible with greatest hit State Of Shock. THE EX got more dash than ever. The singing is more passionate, the melodies more inciting, the compositions more subtle, and the riffs more catchy. A glorious achievement of a breathtaking collective. Just like its predecessor Starters Alternators has Dizzy Spells been recorded with STEVE ALBINI. This time not in Chicago, but in Bretagne, France. + In April and May no less than two new CD-albums of The Ex will be released! + The first one is the new studio CD 'Dizzy Spells' . Twelve brand new songs. Direct and with apparent simplicity, rhythmical and loud, but also stirring and tuneful. Just like its predecessor 'Starters Alternators' once again produced by STEVE ALBINI. Out in the US on Touch And Go, in France on Vicious Circle. The first reactions from there are overwhelming. (also see appendix) + The second one is the EX ORKEST. Live-recordings of the tour the 20-piece orchestra did in June 2000. At the request of the Holland Festival The Ex put together an orchestra and arranged 'ex-music'....... więcej
