PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED!
A complete never before released Miles Davis performance with his 1981 sextet with very good sound quality. Recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the show was taped during Miles' comeback tour after a five-year absence from music (during which time he didn't play or record at all). The concert presents a blend of tunes from his albums The Man With the Horn and We Want Miles, plus a delightful version of "My Man's Gone Now" from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

"From 1975 until early 1980 I didn't pick up my horn; for over four years, didn't pick it up once", wrote Miles Davis in his Autobiography. His hiatus from music finally ended, and this concert at the Hollywood Bowl is one of the first live performances he gave after his comeback. The concert's program presents a blend of tunes from his albums The Man With the Horn and We Want Miles (the latter LP was a live recording made during his gig at Kix, in Boston, on June 27, 1981, and was issued in 1982), plus a delightful version of "My Man's Gone Now" from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, the only tune Miles kept from his earlier repertoire for this comeback. As he stated in his autobiography: "We were mostly playing the tunes on the album We Want Miles, which were recorded live when we went on tour that first time in 1981. They were tunes like 'Jean-Pierre' (named after Frances's son), 'My Man's Gone Now' (from Porgy and Bess), 'Back Seat Betty', and 'Fast Track'. We were playing a tune called 'Kix', too, which was named after the club in Boston." The deep emotion recalled by Miles is clearly felt on this Hollywood Bowl performance, which was his very first show in Los Angeles after his five-year break from music.
