The Light it is telepathic trio, which brings together elements of Eric Dolphy, Jimmy Giuffre an Theo Jorgensmann into a music very much their own. Featuring three brilliant young musicians on clarinets, bass and drums, this is an astounding virtuosic second album that challenges traditions both old and new.

Almost exactly a year ago, a wrote this enthusiastic review of "The Light", the debut album of the Polish trio consisting ofWacław Zimpel on clarinet, bass clarinet, and tarogato, Wojciech Traczyk on bass, and Robert Rasz on drums. Now, with their sophomore album, they confirm their quality, musical skills and vision. It is even more focused than the first album, and they perform only their own material. The approach is still as gentle, sensitive and free as the previous one, with great explorations of timbre and sound, finding a wonderful balance between rhythmic drive as on the last track "Shangri La", and lyrical and emotional delivery, as on "Rozpacz", on which a plaintive tarogato dialogues with a mourning arco, or intense creativity, as on "Hridaja", or percussive improv as on "Sattwa" on which the bass clarinet is propulsed forward by Rasz's drumming, short, compact and powerful. Despite all the adventure and freedom of spirit, the trio is still fully entrenched in the jazz tradition, a great vantage point from which to explore. And the best thing is that the three musicians share the same vision and hence interact to perfection on this highly varied album. Highly recommended.

Z prawdziwą przyjemnością możemy Państwu zaprezentować drugą w dorobku płytę tria The Light [Wacław Zimpel / Wojciech Traczyk / Robert Rasz]. Pierwsza płyta zespołu zajęła trzecie miejsce w plebiscycie portalu Diapazon.pl na najlepszą polską płytę jazzową 2008 roku - ustępując tylko płycie Tim Daisy / Wacław Zimpel with Dave Rempis & Mark Tokar 'Four Walls' oraz triu Marcina Wasilewskiego 'January'. W naszym odczuciu album ten jest dojrzalszy niż poprzednie nagranie - zdobyte doświadczenia, koncerty u boku amerykańskich i europejskich muzyków i gwiazd współczesnego jazzu sprawiły, iż ich muzyka stała się bardziej "wolna", mniej ograniczona, co widać zwłaszcza na tym albumie gdzie obok autorskich kompozycji znajdują się także improwizacje tria. Polecamy Państwu tę płytę gorąco!!!

Nie zatracili też - co niestety bardzo często się zdarza rodzimym muzykom - chęci muzycznego rozwoju i gotowości do ciągłej reinterpretacji tak własnych muzycznych dokonań i przekonań, jak i jazzowej tradycji.

Rok 2008 na scenie jazzowej należał dużej mierze do Wacława Zimpla, pochodzącego z Poznania wirtuoza klarnetu i klarnetu basowego. Pierwsze wydane nagrania ("The Light" i "Four Walls") zostały dostrzeżone przez krytyków, co potwierdziły wysokie miejsca obu tych realizacji w dorocznym plebiscycie Diapazonu ("Four Walls" zostało uznane za najlepszą polską płytę, a "The Light" zajęło trzecie miejsce). Do tego doszły jeszcze koncerty - w lutym wspólna trasa tria The Light i Dragons 1976, w październiku The Light & Aram Shelton, w listopadzie - z Mikołajem Trzaską i Kenem Vandermarkiem. Sam muzyk sięgnął też wtedy po nowe dla niego instrument - tarogato, fujary i tro.......
