From The Region documents Jason Adasiewicz’s Sun Rooms as they explore the sparse territory of the vibraphone trio. On their third record, the Chicago-based collective navigates a new batch of tunes written by Adasiewicz, called “one of the great vibraphonists of our time” by critic Kevin Whitehead. Long time collaborator and drummer Mike Reed (People, Places and Things, Living by Lanterns) also contributed a tune for the new record. In this new venture, renowned bassist Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten (The Thing, Atomic) fills large shoes after the bittersweet departure of Nate McBride. International tours have kept the group pushing the boundaries of the Chicago sound, embodying: “We are all drummers and we all want to swing.”

Jason Adasiewicz, podobnie jak Ken Vandermark czy Rob Mazurek stał się uosobieniem progresywnej strony chicagowskiej sceny improwizowanej, świetnie odnajdując się w najrozmaitszych kontekstach. Jednym z sygnowanych przez niego zespołów jest Rolldown, grupa, która rozwija pomysły muzyczne z lat 60-tych, takich artystów jak Andrew Hill oraz Eric Dolphy. Gra również z kornecistą Joshem Bermanem w Josh Berman's and His Gang, ze Starlicker i Exploding Star Orchestra Roba Mazurka, czy w duecie z Peterem Brotzmannem.

Grupę Sun Rooms poza liderem na wibrafonie tworzą Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten (dotąd Nate McBride) na kontrabasie i za perkusją Mike Reed, z którym Adasiewicz gra chociażby w Loose Assembly. I nawet jeśli literalnie nie jest to prawda, to zdecydowanie prawdą jest, że trio Sun Rosom to trio złożone z samych rytmików, którym rzeczywiście marzy się rozswingowanie wszystkich dźwięków świata.

Spośród wszystkich nagrań jakich w swojej karierze dokonał Adasiewicz to właśnie grupa The Sun Rooms, jej dotychczasowe płyty i te dwie poprzednie, i ta najnowsza „From The Region” prezentuje ten najbardziej klasyczny, jazzowy punkt widzenia. Ale spokojnie, to nie jest muzyka jazzowej tradycji pojęta w taki sposób jak pojmował ją Milt Jackson. Jeśli już można byłoby tu czynić jakieś odniesienia do historii gatunku, do jej milowych kamieni, to zdecydowanie trafniej byłoby sięgnąć do tego co robili wspólnie, na płycie „Out To Lunch” Eric Dolphy z Bobbym Hutchersonem. Oczywiście ze wszystkim co przyniosły lata późniejsze, traktując pomysły z tamtego legendarnego krążka jako pun.......
